Hanzhong Longtou Mountain Scenic Area—Seas of Clouds and Strange Peaks, Breathtaking Beauty
Longtou Mountain is located in Nanzheng District, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province. It lies on the main ridge of the Micang Mountain Range at the junction of Sichuan and Shaanxi. It is part of the Micang Mountain Range and one of the highest peaks of the Daba Mountain Range. It is 50 kilometers from Hanzhong City, bounded by Hongjun Road to the east, Xiaoba Village in Xiaonanhai Town to the west, Micang Mountain National Forest Park to the south, and Qinjiaba Village in Xiaonanhai Town to the north. It covers an area of 86.09 square kilometers.
Longtou Mountain is a Cretaceous limestone massif, formed by the rise of the seabed from a volcanic eruption hundreds of millions of years ago. Its topography is moderately mountainous, with the highest point, the main peak, at 2,336 meters above sea level. Some areas feature wide valleys and basins, as well as high mountain plains. The entire area has a mountainous mesothermal super-humid climate, with an average annual temperature of 7.4°C.
Longtou Mountain is the most distinctive colorful forest viewing spot in the Qinba region. Known for its unique rocks, sea of clouds, colorful forests, and rime, it's known as a "natural oxygen bar" and a "gene bank for plants and animals." It's a premium tourist attraction on the Shaanxi-Sichuan tourism corridor. Within the area are the Longtou Mountain International Tourism Resort, a national AAAA-level scenic spot, and provincial forest parks, as well as the Shaanxi Longtou Mountain Forest Park. Over 30 attractions are located, including the Hanwang Temple, Hanwang Terrace, Fairy Cave, and Jade Emperor Cave.
Separate tours are available in Hanzhong city. Round-trip bus fare, entrance fees, and cable car rides cost just over 100 yuan, making it a relatively cost-effective package.
