In the magical land of Yunnan, there lies the Stone Forest Scenic Area, meticulously sculpted by nature, attracting countless tourists with its unique karst landforms. Located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, just over 70 kilometers from downtown Kunming, the Stone Forest is one of Kunming's must-see attractions.
The formation of the Stone Forest can be traced back 270 million years. During the Early Permian period, this area was a vast ocean, with thick layers of limestone deposited on the seabed. With crustal movement, the limestone was compressed, forming vertical fissures. After the sea receded, the rocks were gradually carved into stone pillars by the combined forces of the sun, rain, and wind, eventually forming the Stone Forest landscape we see today. This process involved multiple geological changes, including volcanic eruptions, lacustrine sedimentation, and crustal uplift; these complex geological processes collectively shaped the Stone Forest.
With its unique karst landforms and rich geological relics, the Stone Forest was inscribed on the World Natural Heritage List in 2007. The karst landscape here boasts a complete development process and diverse types, encompassing almost all karst landforms in the world, earning it the title of "World Karst Museum." Limestone columns of various shapes, including sword-shaped, columnar, and mushroom-shaped, complement caves, karst lakes, and peak clusters, showcasing the magnificent artistry of nature!
