Opposite Hemingway's former residence, you can see a very old lighthouse open to the public. I came here directly from the former residence. Key West is located in an important military fortress area in the United States. Building a lighthouse is essential to ensure the safe arrival of military and commercial ships. This lighthouse opened in 1848, with a woman as the keeper. Later, the lighthouse underwent a series of upgrades and added keeper's quarters. In 1969, due to technological advances, full-time keepers were no longer needed. Now this former sea sentinel is a museum of Key West's maritime heritage.
