Let's start with the downsides. First, there's a fee compared to other ancient towns. Second, the town itself is quite hilly and paved with cobblestones, making it quite strenuous to walk. After rain, the slopes get steeper and more slippery. Ticket inspections are pretty random. Besides the main entrance, I only encountered one at an outer intersection. But the ancient town is open, and there are plenty of side roads you can take if you're not afraid of the hassle.
The upsides: The river, the Water Impression Wetland, the lotus pond, and the flower wall to your left are perfect for photos and offer beautiful views. Besides the main roads around the town and the town itself, the other alleys are filled with authentic historical houses. There are no businesses except for B&Bs, and many still have earthen walls, giving it that ancient town feel. Most importantly, there are plenty of check-in spots from the TV series "The Head of the Group," so you absolutely have to check in.
