Upon entering Gaozhuang Xishuangjing, the first thing that catches your eye is the towering golden pagoda, a sage who has weathered many vicissitudes of life, quietly guarding this land. Beneath the pagoda, the Lancang River flows gently, cruise ships ply across its surface, and Dai bamboo houses line its banks, creating a beautiful scene of harmonious balance between movement and stillness.
Unlike traditional scenic spots, Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is not only a tourist destination but also a living community, a vibrant mix of bustling tourists and relaxed residents, all of whom together create Gaozhuang Xishuangjing's unique cultural atmosphere.
Gaozhuang is the gathering place for tourists in Banna. The size of the beautiful women dressed in the travel photography is full of streets. The high-rise buildings with street lights of peacock elements are very distinctive. The Starlight Night Market is very lively. The Lancang River takes a speedboat. The big balloon can be lifted up and overlooked the night market. There are too many snacks to support, and the performance is even less. You can also watch performances at the Barana West Theater on the street. The Barana West Theater has a large-scale tourism performance project with the theme of national customs in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna. It is located in Gaozhuang Xijingshan Forest Theater, equipped with 2,500 rotating audiences, and adopts sound and photoelectric linkage control system. The night market by the river is a night market that locals like to go to. It is usually very popular and crowded. The night market mainly features food and handicrafts, including Dai barbecue snacks, freshly squeezed juice, banana Balada and other special snacks. You can eat from the beginning to the end of the street without getting bored.
The snacks are concentrated in the southern section, and the stalls near the bridge in the north are handicrafts.
There are fewer people in the riverside night market on rainy days. On March 19, 2025, I rode an electric bike to the vicinity of Xishuangbanna Bridge (also known as the New Bridge). Take a break under the bridge, hide for a while, take pictures of the Starlight Night Market and Xishuangbanna Bridge opposite Gaozhuang, and then visit the riverside night market. The riverside night market is located on the side of the riverside park on Binjiang Avenue, Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna, separated from the Lancang River by Binjiang Avenue. The riverside night market is above the embankment, and you need to climb stairs up and down. The starting point is near the Xishuangbanna Bridge, and the end point is in the south, which may be one kilometer long.

Mengla is a border county under the jurisdiction of Xishuangbanna, bordering Myanmar and Laos. There are 741 kilometers of national borders on 6,860 square kilometers of land. Although it is just a small border county, it is well built. The Platinum Hotel where we stayed should be near the new urban area. The surrounding buildings are very new and the roads are very wide. There are water splashing squares and Starlight Night Market not far from the hotel, which is very lively.
The Starlight Night Market in Mengla is located on the banks of the Nanla River, so it is named Nanla River Starlight Night Market. The entire night market is almost a smaller version of the Gaozhuang Starlight Night Market. There are also buildings similar to Buddhist temples next to the night market. The lights are very beautiful. Unlike the Gaozhuang Night Market, which is specifically for tourists, the things sold here are mostly fruits, food, ethnic costumes and other daily necessities, full of life, and more interesting to visit. I bought some fruits with my baby, took a simple walk and looked around, and then went to the next stop to find food.
I heard that the most famous barbecues in Mengla County are grilled tilapia and grilled pork belly. We came to the famous Nanla River Starlight Night Market. This white, long glutinous rice cake is rarely used for barbecue. It is burnt, fragrant, soft and delicious.
