It truly lives up to its reputation as one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country. Whether it's morning or afternoon, the queues are always long. Guided tours are definitely necessary. However, it's unlikely you can follow someone else's guide the entire way. So, occasionally tagging along is understandable. Out of respect for the Terracotta Warriors, we strictly adhered to national regulations: climbing, scaling over, and littering are prohibited. As responsible tourists...
It's just so-so. I suggest hiring a professional if you want a proper explanation. They don't talk much; they finish in less than an hour. A professional explanation would take more than two hours.

Because there were no other people joining the group for the originally booked session, it was changed to a 3.5-hour tour. The tour guide from Elephant Travel said that Xiao Jiang explained things very carefully, had done his homework thoroughly, and explained things in a simple and easy-to-understand way, from which I benefited a lot.
Seamless entry. Overall experience is not that long if you only view one side of the grottoes. Try to check up days where they do maintenance on the lightings (this was in Nov for 2025). The night view is worth a wait.

It's definitely worth going. It's the off-season now, so there are fewer people, no crowds or traffic jams, and the scenery is quite beautiful. However, it's really steep; the steps are only half a foot high. It truly lives up to its name: "There's only one path to Mount Hua since ancient times, the most dangerous mountain under heaven." This trip involved going north and then north, and I have to say it was exhausting. The West Peak cable car was under maintenance, but it seems it will reopen soon. It's a real shame I couldn't take the West Peak cable car. You can try it though. I returned the way I came, completely worn out.
When we went, the West Line tram was out of service, so we had to choose the North Line instead of the West Line tram, which was originally planned to go up west and down north. Overall, it saved time, but we missed out on a lot of sightseeing.

I visited the park several years ago, and this time I took my child to school while the whole family went for a stroll. It was still as popular as ever, and the shows were just as wonderful, making it a place I never wanted to leave.
I chose this guesthouse because it's close to the Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, whose tickets are valid for three days. Upon arrival, I discovered it's not only close to the garden but also to the Wuxia City (a martial arts city), Yangbo Mansion, and the Stele Forest Park. The location is truly excellent. The guesthouse is located in a quiet residential area. It seems to be a converted three-bedroom, one-living-room house, so the rooms are spacious, especially the bathroom. Although the bathroom doesn't have a separate shower and toilet area, its large size made it feel comfortable. The hot water for showering and washing up was plentiful, which was very pleasant. Note that there's a step leading from the room to the bathroom. The owner was very welcoming, offering to pick me up and drop me off; the owner's wife was especially helpful and patient. There's a fruit vendor near the east gate of the residential area. Perhaps because it caters to residents, the prices are very reasonable.

All thoughts are entrusted to the thousand-foot golden summit—a majestic fairyland, a dazzling myth! ❤️ After watching the light show on Monday, we queued to descend the mountain. The queues for the first and second levels took about half an hour each, which felt like a long time. Actually, it wasn't. They say the queues can be as long as four hours when it's crowded! Ah!! It was windy when we climbed, but the weather was great the next day, though incredibly crowded. Apparently, there were over 30,000 people – Lao Jun Mountain is so popular! ❤️ I knelt down to pray at the Taoist temple in front of the Ten-Mile Gallery, and an elderly Taoist nun helped ring the bell three times. Thank you! ❤️ What I saw was that it was cold and windy at the summit; a down jacket and hand warmers were definitely necessary. Are things expensive on the mountain? Not at all! Three grilled sausages at Zhongtianmen cost 10 yuan, two hiking sticks cost 10 yuan, Mixue Ice Cream at the Golden Summit cost 6 yuan (supposedly the most popular item on Lao Jun Mountain), and bottled water cost 5 yuan… At 2200 meters above sea level, you think that's expensive?!
After climbing so many mountains and seeing so many sights, the Ten-Mile Gallery on Lao Jun Mountain truly is only ten miles long!!! It takes at least two hours to walk the whole thing 😂 Walking along the razor-sharp ridges, with granite peaks and forests below, every step reveals a new vista.
The incense burning since the Northern Wei Dynasty, every stone and tree embodies the Daoist principle of nature ❤️ Man follows the Earth, Earth follows Heaven, Heaven follows the Dao, and the Dao follows Nature.
Upon reaching the Golden Summit, watch the live performance! Knowing Lao Jun Mountain, it's worth it; buying it together with the ticket gets you a discount. The Golden Hall, Liangbaotai, and Jade Emperor Peak shine brilliantly in the sunlight during the day, and the lighting at night is unbeatable! Looking down at the vast sea of clouds, with mountains appearing and disappearing, all worries vanish with the wind. The vastness of heaven and earth versus the insignificance of our own hearts—if there weren't so many people, the clarity and expansiveness of mind would be even more pronounced.
We took the first-level cable car, climbed the steps and walked along the ten-mile gallery to the Golden Summit, watched the live performance and light show, queued for the second-level cable car, queued for the first-level cable car, had a bowl of soup at the exit, and stayed at a guesthouse at the foot of the mountain for the night—perfect!
Flaws: Littering! Smoking! Who are these people?! So many pretty young boys and girls are smoking everywhere, so inconsiderate! And is Mixue offering you a ridiculously low price? While queuing to go down from the Golden Summit, I saw a man in front of me casually throw away half a cup of cigarettes. I reminded him that he had dropped something, but he wouldn't admit it or pick it up!
The trash they carelessly throw away is being painstakingly picked up by the staff. Please respect them ❤️
After taking the first-level cable car, the hike isn't too strenuous, allowing for a leisurely stroll through the Ten-Mile Painting Screen. The night view is beautiful, but remember to dress warmly. The descent at night is congested, so it's recommended to head down quickly after the first lighting ceremony, otherwise the cable car queue can be around an hour long! It's advisable to avoid Saturdays as they are the busiest; you'll either have to descend immediately or go down late.

It's pretty good, valid for three days, so you can split the trip into several visits. I personally recommend the Ma Family Courtyard, the County Government Office, Xietongqing, and Rishengchang. Just scan the QR code. If you want paper tickets, you can buy them offline.
I fell in love with this ancient town on my first visit in 2023. The scenery and historical sites, the warm hospitality of the shop owners, and the attentive and thoughtful service of the guesthouse owners all contributed to the trip. I brought my elderly family members here again in 2025.
