Amazing experience. Tour is all on your own, you’re given a map to explore. There’s a gift shop where you buy the tickets, very inexpensive. Suggest getting water before starting especially in summer months. You get details on the prisoners and cells as you walk throughout the yard. there’s also a theatre to watch a short film on the history of the grounds.

If you have one or two hours (free time), then this is a great place to visit. The scenery alone is worth seeing here. The prison here is a great place to enjoy the Colorado River view. The sentry tower here is a great place to take pictures. Visitors can see what the early Western prisons looked like. The open-air cells with iron gates are certainly (feeling) awesome on a 120-degree summer day. The museum also has artwork and prisoner files. After the prison was officially closed and discontinued, Yuma High School took over the use of the remodeled place, which is also known as Yuma criminal.
