Motel 6 Austin, TX - Airport
4.1/5103 Reviews
Let me preface this by saying that the only reason I chose this hotel at first was because it was one of the few hotels not pushing or exceeding $200+ per night during SXSW. I needed to be by the airport and away from downtown, so affordability and convenience to the airport were my top priorities. Secondly, understand that this is a Motel 6. The place is very short on amenities: no airport shuttle (though plenty of Uber/Lyft), no fridge, no iron/board, no hairdryer. But that was minor. Plus, the hotel doesn't say they have any of these, so I can't fault them. They do have an ice machine, laundry room, vending machines and microwave (in lobby) which were helpful. That said, we had a great experience here. It's definitely much nicer and newer than most Motel 6s. But what stood out for us was the outstanding service from the front desk staff, particularly Crystal. She definitely elevated our experience. The area isn't the nicest (not that I expected it to be, considering it's near the airport and the highway), but it definitely appears to be an up-and-coming neighborhood. There are a lot of reputable hotel brands in the surrounding area and newer, low-rise apartments being built. Not too many great dining options in the area, but there are the other hotels, Starbucks, 7-11, Denny's, and Waffle House all within 5-10 minutes away by foot. It could be worse. There is a decent food truck lot across the street. It didn't seem dangerous, but I'd still watch my back walking around at night. The hotel itself is a solid 3-rating, but I elevated it to 4 on account of the service. I would probably stay here again if the circumstances called for it.

Unfortunately my husband and I will not choose to stay at this hotel again. (We stayed recently overnight in late March, 2023, before catching a plane the next day.) Pros: the staff working the Night Shift upon our arrival was courteous and tried to be helpful, and the morning breakfast was acceptable. However this did not make up for the hotel’s shortcomings which were numerous—as I will outline here. Cons: (1) the microwave had no plate and was therefore unusable until shortly before we checked out, when at last someone located a replacement plate. (2) the carpet was dirty with visible stains (3) the window shade would not open properly (4) the very heavy dishwasher door fell open unexpectedly several times, once hitting me (hard!) on the leg. (this was especially concerning since the dishwasher is installed in the entrance to the room and one must walk past it to enter or exit the room) (5) the dishwasher leaked water onto the floor, posing a slipping hazard (the water was hard to see ) (6) there were unsightly yellow stains on the bedding of one bed (7) no toaster was provided (8) the water coming from the two faucets smelled and tasted like mold. After returning from our trip we outlined all of these problems in an email message to the manager on duty, but we have never received any sort of reply from him. (We tried to reach him several times by phone before we left the hotel, but he could not be reached)

Big clean room, comfy bed and the breakfast was also good. Nightshift-staff was really welcoming. But it would be good to mention in the hotel description that the airport-shuttle stops at 11pm. Anyway we can recommend and would book this hotel again. :)

Terrible customer service, gave the hotel and Marriott multiple chances to make this right and despite corporate saying multiple times they would, they didn’t and I’m a Bonvoy Titanium. I requested a late checkout and reserved a 2:30 PM Airport Shuttle. I returned to my room at 1:45PM and when to the front desk and checked out at 2:15PM, handing the front desk clerk my key and giving my room #. I then sat around in the deserted lobby for 15 minutes, occasionally getting up and walking to door to look for the shuttle. At 2:30 I was at the door looking for the shuttle when the desk clerk called my last name and asked if it was me. I replied yes and was told the shuttle left without me because they knocked on my door and called my room and I wasn’t there and would have to wait until 3PM for the next shuttle. I asked how I missed it since I had been in the lobby 15 minutes early and was then told it never actually came back to the hotel from the airport because sometimes people don’t show up or forget they made a reservation and I didn’t answer my room phone or knock so they assumed I was a no show. I told the desk clerk I had been in my room from 1:45pm and reminded her I checked out at 2:15pm handing her my key, and asked why didn’t she tell me then? She then asked again why I didn’t answer my room phone/knock and told me I would have to wait until 3pm. Reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where the customer agent is told she does not know the meaning of a reservation and how to hold a reservation! I couldn’t wait until 3pm and took an Uber. No way to contact hotel management directly to request reimbursement of my $12.85 Uber fare so contacted Bonvoy customer service online and made the request. Was sent an email stating the hotel’s accounting department would contact me in 3-5 business days. Never happened and sent multiple follow ups online and no reply. Finally called the Titanium desk and asked what was going on, no apologies or explanations on why the hotel never contacted me and why my follow ups were ignored but they were able to pull up the initial correspondence in the system and after a long wait told me the Uber fare would be refunded which as far as I can tell, never happened despite the call occurring over a month ago.

I only gave this hotel a 1 star rating because it was clean, close to the airport, an the decor was updated. The customer service provided was the worse I've encountered and observed in a very long time. I booked this room on May 27, for check-in at 1am on May 30th. I did so because I had a 5-6 hour layover in-between flights. I wanted to shower and get a little sleep between flights. I explained my situation to the reservation person and was told the notations would be made on my reservation about the check-in time. I checked around 1am, and the man working the desk first told me he ”didn't have a reservation for me in the system. Once I pulled it up on my phone, then he appeared to be annoyed that I could prove I had a reservation. Then tried to tell me my reservation/room was no longer available. But he couldn't explain why it wasn't if there was a notation in the system about the time I would check-in. He gave me ”another room”. Signs on the floor indicated it was ”quiet hours”. However, once in the room, It was everything but quiet. I heard the TV playing in one room next to me and people talking in the other room next to me. It's not that either side was loud, the walls are very thin. The same clerk was on duty when I checked out, and was rude in his mannerisms. While waiting in the lobby for the airport shuttle, I noticed a gentleman, who looked a little dishelved, enter the lobby. He asked the clerk about the cost of a room. The clerk could have clearly given the man a price range. That's easy. However, he avoided giving any financial specifics at all, and just said it depends, and provided nothing else. The man paid for some snacks then left. This clerk seemed to be making a concerted effort to stop people from staying at the hotel. is bad for the hotel's business. I'm a HH member, but will never stay at this location again.
Hilton Garden Inn Austin Airport

We had mechanical issues leaving Boston so arrived in Austin just as our connection was backing out of the gate. We had a choice of 2 hotels that American Airlines would give a voucher for. Since we are a Hilton Honors member chose the Garden Inn. If you do the same please call the number on the voucher to have them send the shuttle van as there is another Hilton nearby with a shuttle bus that you might accidentally use by mistake as we did at first We were greeted by Marlene at the check in i had given her the voucher ID by phone so she was all ready for us when the van arrived. Rooms are a bit smaller than most but well appointed. Beds comfortable and plenty of towels etc. there is a restaurant and bar. The bar opens at 4pm the restaurant at 5. They have 5 main entrees on the menu as well as sandwiches. The server Morgan was very friendly and helpful And the food was ample and reasonable for a hotel restaurant. Unfortunately our luggage was still at the airport as the airline refused to release them as they are checked onward for the next day flight that we were are on. Marlene offered us toothpaste and toothbrushes which was well appreciated. In the morning the breakfast is either continental breakfast for $10 or full buffet and made to order omelettes for $20 per person. Omelettes are huge and excellent. Plenty of other foods and well worth the $20 All in all a good stay.
