We at Trip.com pride ourselves on our truly all-in-one travel app. We provide flights, hotels, tours and tickets, car hire - if it’s for your holiday: you name it, we supply it.

Another thing we’re proud of is our pricing. But how do you maximise the best deals on our superb platform? How can you squeeze every penny, cent or dime out of your trip? Thankfully we have the answers for you, in one handy blog…

Be flexible with dates and destinations

Got a bit of wiggle room to plan your next trip? Then you could find yourself with the best possible prices. Even better if you’re equally flexible with your destination - you can find some remarkable deals for your new favourite destination…

Check out our fancy Flight Map to see all the best options available to you - at the cheapest prices on our site.

Be sure to check out low-cost carriers

One of the best things about Trip.com is: you're able to compare prices from all airlines.

In the UK, Ryanair, EasyJet, Eurowings and other low-cost airlines offer great flight deals to specific routes. Be sure to keep an eye on charges - normally you’ll pay additional fees for selecting your seat and checked luggage, so be sure to factor those in when you’re booking.

And, particularly for short journeys that don’t require any frills, you can find some true bargains.

Some examples of trending routes?

Check out our flights page - complete with interactive map - to keep track of the best deals by each airline.

Be open to flying non-stop- or changing - to get a good price

If you really want to get bang for buck, many cheap flight routes will offer slightly left-field alternatives. If 'airport hopping' works for you, you might find yourself with an even bigger bargain. If you have a long layover, you can even take advantage of an extra 'mini-break' too.

Alternatively, travelling non-stop for a longer route - which is actually more sustainable, too - is a potential money-saver as well.

One other thing is that Trip.com also features a 'virtual interline', where our search engine combines flights from different airlines with a self-connection in between. This is another great way to save money -and something you won’t always find on an airline's website…

Be open to mixing airlines and airports
While we all tend to default to return flights when searching for our perfect trip, a cheaper alternative could come in the form of mixing and matching.

If you’re flying from one London airport, returning to another may be better value. If you’re using one airline for your outbound journey, cheaper alternatives for the return will come up as default. If Trip.com shows you the best options from our search tool, then you’ll have a self-transfer guarantee too.

Also, be sure to use our multi-city function when looking at flights if you’re looking to move around a bit. A bit of mixing and matching and you could find yourself saving a fair bit of cash…

Book early - but not too early…

The eternal question - when is the best time to book?

While you can get some great last-minute deals, and booking well in advance will give you a lot of options, on average you'll find the best prices 2-3 months prior to departure. So if you have a date in mind, get ready to book around then.

Bonus tip: Freeze your flight price

In our collaboration with the wonderful people at Hopper, our Price Freeze function helps travellers save money by protecting price volatility when booking your next trip (the option will appear as you book).

By paying a small fee upfront, on selected flights you’ll be able to freeze a flight price for up to 14 days. This gives you the chance to check with your travel companions and finalise plans before booking your trip.
