International travel restrictions enacted early in the COVID-19 pandemic have eased significantly as countries and regions continue implementing effective containment efforts. The severe disruptions to global tourism caused by onerous travel restrictions are gradually disappearing. Travelers are once again venturing abroad and passenger numbers are returning to pre-pandemic levels in some places. In this brief guide, we’re covering many places that, at the time of writing, have completely reopened or removed most barriers to international travelers. Read on to discover what you need to do to visit these amazing destinations.


Easiest Countries and Regions to Visit

Including Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, Oman, Bahrain, the Maldives, Yemen, Jordan, Armenia, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Israel, and Vietnam, have scrapped all entry requirements and pandemic control restrictions related to COVID-19. Some places have not completely lifted all entry rules, so travelers will want to pay attention when making travel decisions. Some locations such as the Maldives, for example, still require visitors to submit health declaration forms that include information regarding their current health status. With many of the most burdensome entry rules having been lifted, however, travel is much easier now that at any point since the start of the pandemic.

Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Australia provide exemption from mandatory quarantine for travelers who carry proof they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Australia, Singapore, and South Korea had implemented some of the most stringent entry rules. It is now much easier to visit these locations.

Thailand provides quarantine exemptions for fully vaccinated visitors. All travelers are still required to produce proof of a negative COVID-19 test result, however. Results must be issued within 72 hours of departure using a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test. Quarantine exemptions also apply to children under 6 years of age provided they are traveling with a fully vaccinated parent or legal guardian.

Among popular destinations in the Asia-Pacific Region, New Zealand’s entry rules remain among the most strict. As of now, only visitors from countries and regions eligible under New Zealand’s visa-waiver program are allowed to enter. Fully vaccinated travelers from these locations are exempt from quarantine restrictions and various other entry permissions are available for persons seeking to travel for work or study. Travelers interested in visiting New Zealand should check whether or not they hold a passport that entitles them to a visa waiver.

Within Europe, several perennial travel factors such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom are open to travelers from around the world after having lifted their entry restrictions. Other locations include Schengen-associated countries like Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland have lifted most if not all of their pandemic-related entry rules. Non-EU Members States like Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia have likewise lifted a significant number of their most strenuous entry rules.

Travelers should pay special attention to remaining entry rules in several countries including France, Italy, and Spain. Visitors to Italy are only exempt from quarantine if they carry proof of vaccination, proof of recovery, or proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test. Travelers lacking an accepted version of one of these documents remain subject to mandatory quarantine.

France has lifted quarantine restrictions but unvaccianted travelers must produce proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test result. In Spain, travelers are exempt from quarantine only if they provide valid proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have recently recovered from a previous COVID-19 infection.

Multiple countries and regions in North America have lifted all COVID-19 entry rules. These include Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, El Salvador, Grenada, Jamaica, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Travelers wishing to visit any of these destinations simply need to pay attention to necessary visa requirements when making travel plans. Travelers should be aware that Cuba does still require random COVID-19 testing for arriving passengers.


Canada and the United States both allow fully vaccinated travelers to arrive from anywhere in the world. All US-bound travelers (including US citizens) must carry proof of a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 issued no more than 24 hours prior to departure.

Argentina has lifted all entry rules and restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Visitors are free to travel to Argentina at any time without restriction. Chile has likewise lifted its COVID-19 entry rules. Travelers no longer need proof of vaccination or a COVID-19 test result when traveling to Chile. Several island destinations have also lifted COVID-19 entry rules. These include Anguilla, Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao.

Gabon and The Democratic Republic of the Congo have lifted all entry requirements and pandemic pcontrol restrictions. Travelers are free to visit these two countries at any time without any restriction.
