If you're preparing to make a trip to Seoul and appreciate the glamorous maple trees, then the Changdeokgung Palace and its secret gardens are a must-see.


Many color-changing trees are planted inside and outside the palace's grounds, echoing the beautiful scenery of the traditional architecture of Korean palace. Every autumn, when the red leaves and ginkgos are in their blooming periods, the scenery turns into reds and oranges.


Top tip: The Secret Garden of Changdeokgung Palace can only be entered with a guided tour. Without an appointment, visitors can only visit the periphery of Changdeokgung Palace.

Transportation: Visitors can take subway line 3 to the Anguk station, and head out from Exit 3, and walk for 5 minutes to the destination.


Gyeongbokgung Palace is undoubtedly one of the popular sites to appreciate fall foliage. From the palace's Guanghua, South and Main Gates to the interiors, plenty of ginkgo and red leaves can be seen. The most famous scenic spot is the giant ginkgo tree, a must-see for visitors.


After entering the Guanghua Gate and turning left, you can see that tree before reaching the Xingli Gate and the palace. The golden ginkgo leaves flutter in the air when the wind blows, which beautifully compliment the classical historical buildings behind, leaving an unforgettable impression on visitors.

Transportation: Visitors can take subway line 3 to the Gyeongbokgung Palace Station, and head out from Exit 5.


Namsan Park is the largest park in Seoul, and a perfect leaf-peeping destination. When autumn arrives, the maple leaves and the ginkgo change colors, and the whole mountains are dotted in red, yellow and green.


There is a famous landmark in Namsan Park - N Seoul Tower. Looking down from the top of the Seoul Tower, the red leaves are particularly beautiful. Heading to the summit comes highly recommended as a scenic spot for the maple trees in Seoul.

It has been long recognized that the Deoksugung Doldam-gil is one of the most beautiful streets in South Korea. In the autumn months, leaves fall on the road of the footpath, which paints a gorgeous picture for those lucky enough to visit.


In addition, this site is one of the filming locations of the popular Korean TV series, 'The Lonely and Great God', - which makes it a must-go destination for appreciating maple leaves in Seoul.

Ewha Womans University is something of a hidden gem when it comes to getting your autumn leaf fix. The campus is full of elegant European-style buildings, with the distinctive colors of red maple and ginkgo strewn on the ground.


Compared with other leaf-peeping spots, the campus offers a certain scholarly air that just lends itself to a fall activity. After appreciating your autumnal surroundings, fashionistas among you can also stroll around the fashion street nearby for a bit of retail therapy.

Transportation: Visitors can take metro line 2 and head out from Exit 2 or 3 to the destination.


Covering an area of more 1,200 ha (3,000 acres), Seoul Forest is understandably one of the most popular sites to view captivating autumn scenes. In fall, the whole area becomes a rich palette of reds, oranges and yellows. There are over 40 species of rose here, too.


Compared with other spots in downtown Seoul, the foliage here has a vast range and arguably the most spectacular scenery. If weather allows, you can also grab some food and have a picnic with friends on the grassland in the Seoul Forest.

Transportation: Visitors can take Suin–Bundang Line from the Seoul Forest Station and head out from Exit 3 or 4, and then walk for 5 minutes to the destination.


Nami Island is a must-see scenic spot in Seoul's sprawling suburbs. The island's four seasons each have distinctive scenery - in the fall, the metasequoia, ginkgo and maple leaves bloom at the same time, showcasing a landscape that is truly unique and beautifully ordered.


Around an hour's drive from Seoul, we cannot recommend Nami Island highly enough - walking on the island is really like a mini paradise.

Transportation: Visitors can start from Cheongnyangni Station , and then walk for 10 minutes to the Cheongnyangni train station, and transfer to take ITX Youth line and get off at Gapyeong station, and walk to the dock of Nami Island.


When showcasing places to appreciate gorgeous maple trees in the suburbs of Seoul, there is one place we can't miss - the Garden of Morning Calm in Gapyeong-gun's Gyeonggi-do. Covering an area of 33,000 square meters (355,000 sq ft), this spot boasts some true highlights of Korean horticulture. Besides the red-leaf maples, tulips, hibiscus flowers, and daffodils are all planted in the gardens.


When walking among a profusion of red leaves, maple leaves, the chapel and garden courtyards, you'll be surprised at how 'European' the Garden of Morning Calm feels - but, of course, with a true Korean flavor.

Transportation: Visitors can take the Gyeongchun Line/ITX Youth Line to the Cheongpyeong station, and transfer to the Gapyeong-gun sightseeing bus, and then get off at ‘The Garden of Morning Calm’ station. Usually, the one-day tour of Namiseom Island also goes through here.


Seoraksan National Park is another worthy site for appreciating foliage in South Korea. It's said to be the first place to see red maple leaves in South Korea every year when fall rolls in. The park features spectacular landscapes, and various colors of maple leaves dot the mountains, making the scenery in Seoraksan particularly amazing.


After appreciating the red maples, you can take the aerial cable car to enjoy the wonderful rock formations along the way. Then, head to the Sinheungsa, the Bronze Buddha Statue and other iconic tourist attractions. One of the best places for outings with relatives and friends on weekends.
