Traveling by rental car wasn't as easy as I thought. Finding the pickup and return locations was so vast, you had to navigate the company carefully. Alamo was a small company, housed within Locauto. When picking up the car, I almost had to get another insurance policy. Because we couldn't communicate well, we signed up for full coverage, but they said a separate deposit of €200 was required if you purchased their insurance, and €500 if you didn't. I had already signed up for insurance, but then canceled it. Some highway toll gates don't accept cards, so you have to pay in cash. Also, be aware of how to pay in parking lots. Waze navigation was helpful. I was surprised to find that parking in Florence cost €65 for 20 hours. I was worried that other parking lots might automatically raise the barriers, causing late charges. I was also worried about getting fined. We completed our trip safely, but I couldn't relax the entire time.
