Upon entering the Hainan Provincial Museum, this venue on the banks of the Nandu River immediately unfolds a thousand-year-long landscape of Hainan. In the &quot;Fangwai Fengjie&quot; exhibition hall, a semicircular video recreates the island&#39;s transformation from vast ocean to land, while Warring States bronze ring vessels gleam with an ancient luster under the light. Most moving is the &quot;Ancestral Sea&quot; exhibition area, where a map of Hainan made of shells features pink conch shells marking the location of the Xisha Islands. Nearby, a celadon bowl unearthed from the Huaguang Reef shipwreck sits quietly on display, its rims adorned with coral, revealing eight hundred years of underwater history.

In the &quot;Qiong Workshop,&quot; the patterns of Li ethnic group brocade hold secrets like secret codes, while the patterns of Huanghuali wood carvings are warm and delicate. Even after the museum closes, the faint scent of agarwood lingers on my nose. This journey feels like a journey through Hainan&#39;s love letter to its mountains and seas.
