The display showcases some of the bands that clamoured to play Liverpool’s music scene in the wake of The Beatles’ monumental fame.
Following the stratospheric success of The Beatles, musicians would flock to play the city's music venues on Mathew Street and beyond, soaking up the success and legacy of Liverpool’s famous sons, including some of history’s most influential American blues artists.
Front and centre at their shows were an army of photographers, including Bill Connell and Les Chadwick from Liverpool studio Peter Kaye Photography. The company documented the performances and crowds that danced to the beat of the clubs during the swinging 60s.
This small selection of photographs, taken from a huge archive by Peter Kaye Photography, captures the essence of the Merseybeat scene. The energy of the clubs, the enthusiasm of the crowds and the power of the musicians to captivate their audiences.
Artists from rock and blues backgrounds including The Yardbirds, The Hollies, John Lee Hooker and The Spencer Davis Group feature alongside local artists who performed during the 1960s.
Beyond the Beat is on display and free to visit in Museum of Liverpool’s Skylight gallery.

Anfield has always been a nice stadium. The Kop driving the atmosphere into the other stands. Now they two stands have been extended I have been worried that the atmosphere might be lost, particularly when seared in the upper tiers but having experienced several seat locations I have to say that it&#39;s as good as ever. Probably one of the good stadiums in Europe.The exterior has been vastly improved over the years too , We did the stadium tour and it was very good. Audio tour on every corner. 😃

I didn&#39;t know much about this museum at first, but my son insisted on going. I took a taxi in the rain and it was really rewarding. The special exhibition of the return of the gods inside is all cultural relics from the ancient Roman era. It is a group of statues from Zeus in ancient Greece. You can see the complete body of Venus and the heroic Athena. The background music is that people in ancient Rome held banquets and created a god for this purpose. There is a painting from Rubens&#39; studio that is very funny. You can take a closer look. The ancient Egyptian pavilion of the museum made my son praise it. Compared with the exhibition of the British Museum, the layout here is reasonable, the description is clear, and the display is clear! In the eyes of an outsider like me, it&#39;s not crowded with people in the British Museum anyway, and I can&#39;t see anything. I came to Liverpool and I knew that the research on ancient Egyptian civilization here is not inferior to the British Museum! Friends who are interested can come and take a good look.
