Educated at the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham, Felicity Aylieff went on to teach ceramics at Bath Spa University. She is currently Professor of Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art. An artist residency in Jingdezhen, China, led to a lasting collaborative relationship with porcelain factories in city, where she also now has a studio. Her series of monumental pots, the largest of which stand over four metres high, demonstrate her passion for material and process and historically informed decorative technique. A student of the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham, Gili’s work combines the use of steel construction with her search for increasingly sensual and subjective means of expression. Over time, this has led Gili to develop her sculpture away from the industrial aesthetic of steel, towards one based on an increasing manipulation of this seemingly intractable material. Her work continues to explore notions of weight and balance in response to movement and the dynamic figure. Explore this simple, playful and spontaneous mono-print technique. I'll guide you through the process of creating images using seasonal treasures, be it seedheads, leaves or meadow flowers. We will creat simple images and layered images, creating colour & texture. Within mono printing You will get to try at least 3 different printing techniques and you will then have plenty of time to play with these methods and develop your own prints. I'll provide plenty of suitable botanical pieces for you to print with and I'll show you what to look for in finding other elements that would work well to give fantastic results throughout the seasons. The unique properties of this type of printing allows you to capture tiny details in surface texture giving beautiful prints. The possibilities are endless and you are guaranteed to get surprising and stunning results. This is a very fun & addictive form of printing! You will leave with your own set of unique prints ready to frame and the knowledge to make your own printing plate so that you can continue printing at home. In June’s Collection Conversation, we will be joined by Nigel Goldsmith and Chloe Yandell. Nigel Goldsmith studied his Masters in fine art at Bath Spa University. Goldsmith’s videos employ some of the visual and aural strategies used in advertising in an attempt to mesmerize the viewer, presenting a subject that is overwhelming in scale yet engaging to watch. Chloe Yandell also studied at Bath Spa University. She works out of her studio in Corsham, taking inspiration from her local environment, memories and materials. Her recent studies have focused on creating texture and atmosphere, and often her techniques and pieces evolve through the exploration of the creative journey.
