Author Talk with 'Wyl Menmuir' Come join us for an exciting evening at Camborne Library to meet and chat with the talented Wyl Menmuir. Wyl Menmuir is a multi-award winning author based in Cornwall. His 2016 debut novel, The Many was longlisted for the Booker Award and was an Observer Best Fiction of the year pick. His second novel, Fox Fires was published in 2021 and his short fiction has been published by the BBC, Nightjar Press, Kneehigh Theatre and National Trust Books, and has appeared in Best British Short Stories. Wyl's first full-length non fiction book, The Draw of the Sea, won the Roger Deakin Award from the Society of Authors and a Holyer an Gof Award. His second non fiction book, The Heart of The Woods, was released in 2024. A former journalist, Wyl has written for Radio 4, The Guardian and The Observer. He is a course leader for Curtis Brown Creative, co-creator of the Cornish writing centre, The Writers’ Block and is a senior lecturer in creative writing at Falmouth University. ​ Wyl now lives on Cornwall's north coast with his wife and two children. RecRock is running a 5 day music project for young people aged 12-18 years old who have an interest in music. We are looking for singers, songwriters, drummers, guitarists, keyboards, anyone who wants to make friends and improve their music skills. We are focussing on digital skills as part of the project. The young people will learn how to use a sound desk, how to use digital photography and social media as well as rehearsing in bands. No experience is necessary, anyone can attend the only thing required is a can do attitude. Our courses are ideal for young people who want to improve their confidence, and perform on stage for the first time. We are particularly keen to work with people who are suffering from social isolation and want to make new friends. We will be looking at songwriting, exploring themes of mental health. In previous projects we have put on a concert and made music videos. The projects are always led by the young people on the courses, so please come with any creative ideas. Join us for an exciting and creative afternoon of life drawing at CORNER! Get ready to unleash your artistic side and immerse yourself in this unique experience. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, this event is perfect for everyone. Hosted by the talented Jo McCormick from @artclassdiasporia and joined by various models, you'll have the chance to take your time and explore the art of the long pose. The poses will be clothed with a focus on portraiture, and will last for 30 minutes and 45 minutes, with a break halfway through to give you the opportunity to chat and share ideas. The bar and cafe will be closed, so please bring your own refreshments to this event. This class will run in person, while also being live-streamed on Zoom.
