The Ashley Carpenter (AC) Classic Softball Tournament is an annual coed event that aims to raise funds for a local child who is bravely battling cancer. This year, the tournament will be held on September 30th at the Bondurant Recreational Sports Complex in Bondurant, Iowa. It is a great opportunity to show your support and make a difference in the life of a child in need. Teams are encouraged to participate and mark this important date on their calendars. The tournament promises to be an exciting day filled with fun activities and entertainment. Silent Auction, Raffle items, live music, and more will be available for everyone to enjoy. To ensure fair play, each team must have a minimum of 8 players on their roster, with a maximum of 12 players allowed. It is mandatory for each participant to complete the player registration online in order to take part in the tournament. Additionally, a minimum of 4 girls must be registered as part of each team. When it comes to batting and fielding, specific rules apply. Roster batting is encouraged, but if a team only has 10 players, substitutes will need to stay in the same lineup spot. For fielding, if there are only 4 girls, 2 must play the infield and 2 must play the outfield. Equipment regulations state that bats must have the USSSA, ASA, or NSA approval, and should not exceed 31 oz or 34 inches in length. Metal cleats are not allowed. Creative photographer Jane Marr aka Mama Jane will take you on a walk of discovery and wellbeing around the Tea Tree Gully heritage precinct and Anstey Hill Recreation Park. Photowalking is a practice in creativity, mindfulness and gratitude - looking at local places and faces through fresh eyes - discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary. The session will introduce some simple photographic principles and the benefits of walking for emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. Participants will finish the walk with a collection of photographs, which could be printed and framed, made into photo-cards and/or you may want create an artwork for next year’s Stitch & Yarn Community Exhibition. This is an intimate nature sketchbook workshop, where we’ll explore the beauty of the natural world through drawing and watercolour. Topics will include colour mixing, brushwork, simplifying big forms of the landscape and delving into tiny details of botanical sketches. It offers you the chance to refine their artistic skills, from mixing colours on paper, using a mixture of brush and watercolour pencil, to using a viewfinder to frame compositions. You will gain an understanding of how sketchbooks are source material for larger finished artworks. You will also gain confidence in your artistic process, moving through the stages of inspiration, making sketches, reflecting on your work and celebrating your achievements as a group. On that weekend you will learn how to make your own serving plate and vase, using slab and coiling construction techniques. Once your pieces are made, we’ll apply a coloured slip glaze to the surface of your pieces and spend some time planning your designs. Finally, you’ll dive into the sgraffito technique to create your own botanical-inspired design, by etching into the outer coloured surface to reveal the underlying clay body. This workshop will include hands-on demonstrations and exercises for you to practice forming and decorating your pieces. In this workshop you will be introduced to the textile art of wet wool felting, its history and applications. You will create 3D vessels with merino wool rovings. These vessels will be reminiscent of birds nests that are sculptural and textural. The skills taught will set you up to continue your felting journey at home. About the facilitator - Anne Griffiths is an artist and educator working in textiles and watercolours. Her work is reflective of nature and its cyclic processes. Anne creates felted vessels, nests and cocoons using wool felting and adding found objects that connect with the environment. In these relaxed sessions, you'll learn to embroider onto personal photographs, giving old holiday snaps or meaningful pictures a fresh, artistic twist using colourful threads and unique techniques.
