Coach Justine Colley-Leger '09, Athletics Director at Halifax Grammar School(Grammar), invites student-athletes to join her on the court and in the classroom to enhance fundamentals and increase their basketball IQ. In a fun, positive, yet competitive environment, student-athletes will learn skills to prepare them for competing at the next level. Grammar is offering four week-long basketball camps for elite student-athletes in grades 6-9 (student-athletes must have completed their Grade 6 academic year). Coach asks that all student-athletes have competed in Division 1 or Division 2 High School, Junior High, or Club basketball this past season. If you are interested in competing in the NCAA, USports, or professionally, then this is the camp for you! Dates**: Girl's Camp: July 7 - 11 Boy's Camp: July 14 - 18 Girl's Camp: July 21 - 25 Boy's Camp: July 28 - Aug 1 ** Camps are not consecutive. As part of Irish Design Week 2024, esteemed designer Róisín Gartland will host a talk in her studio, where visitors can learn about collaborations and commissions that have been acclaimed internationally with artists and designers such as Jesse Jones and Joseph Walsh Studios.Róisin Gartland will also discuss her current research and commissions, explaining how her work transitions from concept to finished piece and how her fine art and design processes merge within her practice. She will address sustainability in relation to her materials and the sustainable nature of her overall practice. Leather re-purposing workshops have become an ongoing educational feature within Róisín Gartland’s practice, and she will discuss this new facet, which she has been developing with the support of Unit18, Trinity in the Community, at the Trinity East Campus. A book of mixed media poems Hear What the Moon Told Me is published by KFS, and chapbook Maps of the Abandoned City by SurVision. She has work translated into Polish, Ukrainian, Spanish, Croatian and Greek for Versopolis. Wunderkammer: New and Selected Poems (2023) is published in the US by MadHat Press. Her Poem The Square of the Clockmaker has recently been riding the rails as one of the Poems on the Underground. Martin Figura’s collection and show Whistle were shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award and won the 2013 Saboteur Award for Best Spoken Word Show. Shed (Gatehouse Press) and Dr Zeeman’s Catastrophe Machine (Cinnamon Press) were both published in 2016. Join us at God's House Tower on Friday 21st February as we say goodbye to three exhibitions: In Training for a Heroine: Jane Austen's Travelling Writing Desk, No Notion of Loving by Halves by Jocelyn McGregorand Dear Jane: a Volunteers Showcase. This will be the last chance to see the live performance of No Notion of Loving by Halves, written and directed by Jocelyn McGregor. A warped, re-imagining of Northanger Abbey, the performance explores the multiple interpretations of Austen’s work and possible inspirations behind Northanger Abbey itself, particularly the purportedly True and Affecting Story of the Duchess of C***, the tale of an Italian Duchess locked in a dungeon for 9 years by her jealous husband that likely inspired the character of Mrs Tilney. We'll also be raising a glass to our brilliant team of volunteers who will be showing new work as part of an exhibition called Dear Jane: a Volunteers Showcase. Dear Jane includes a number of creative responses to the Jane Austen at GHT programme, drawing on the volunteers' experiences, refections and interactions with visitors whilst invigilating the exhibitions. This event will also be the last opportunity for a late-night viewing of In Training for a Heroine: Jane Austen's Travelling Writing Desk, an exhibition that tells the tells the story Jane Austen as a young, ambitious writer at the beginning of her career, the travelling writing desk symbolising a world of opportunity and possibility. Extracts from Austen's letters provide us with an insight into her life and her time in Southampton where she lived briefly in 1783 and from 1806-1809. Jane Austen's travelling writing desk, on loan from the British Library, is at the heart of a year-long celebration of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday in Southampton, and across the world. As well as exploring the exhibitions, our bar will be open selling a selection of locally brewed beers, wines and soft drinks.
