This component of medieval manuscripts is often overlooked, but it provides valuable insights into the book-use and image-viewing processes of the time. Sommer Hallquist will share her research findings from St. John's College, Cambridge, specifically focusing on the SJCC manuscript K.21 from the thirteenth century. She will discuss critical issues in dating the placement of these textile materials and explore the connection between revealing an image and the concept of revelation. This seminar promises to shed light on a lesser-known aspect of medieval manuscripts and their significance.
