The Schock & Shivers 5k and Cold Water Challenge is a highly anticipated event returning in 2024 to support fallen law enforcement officers. Organized by Team Chesapeake Law Enforcement United, this race aims to raise funds for the Road to Hope, a 250-mile bike ride that honors fallen officers and remembers their survivors. Taking place on January 27, 2024, at Oak Grove Lake Park in Chesapeake, the event will pay tribute to Chesapeake officers Tim Schock and Jarrod Shivers, who tragically lost their lives while on duty. Participants can look forward to a unique experience, with the race offering a chance to warm up while running and a refreshing opportunity to cool off with the Cold Water Challenge at the park. Safety is a top priority, as Chesapeake Police and Fire divers will be present throughout the event. Team Chesapeake is proud to be a part of Law Enforcement United, a 501c3 organization that fundraises for various causes including the Road to Hope, COPS Kids Camp, the Officer Down Memorial Page, and Spirit of Blue. Participants in the Schock & Shivers 5k and Cold Water Challenge will receive a race shirt, runner bag, and a finisher medal. Additionally, those brave enough to complete the Cold Water Challenge will earn a Schock & Shivers patch. The event will also feature a fun run for kids and prizes for the fastest male and female runners in different age groups. Registration is open until January 25, 2024, with prices ranging from $35 to $50 depending on the date of registration. Group rates are available, and packet pick-up can be done on race day or on January 26. For those unable to attend the event in person, a virtual 5k option is also available. The race will be held at Oak Grove Lake Park, a beautiful trail-style path that encompasses a 1.5-mile loop. Rain or shine, this event promises to be a memorable and meaningful experience.
