Join the Author Series for an enlightening conversation with esteemed authors Dr. Tanisha C. Ford and Dr. Robyn C. Spencer-Antoine. The event will take place at the Main branch of the Detroit Public Library, located at 5201 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202. Dr. Ford's latest book, "Our Secret Society: Mollie Moon and the Glamour, Money, and Power Behind the Civil Rights Movement," will be the focal point of the discussion. In this captivating read, Dr. Ford delves into the fascinating life of Mollie Moon, an iconic figure in the civil rights movement and the founder of the National Urban League Guild. Moon's tireless efforts as a civil rights fundraiser, most notably through her annual Beaux Arts Ball in New York City, are explored in depth. Dr. Ford, a highly respected voice in the fields of politics, economics, and culture, draws connections between the past and present to provide fresh insights into today's most pressing social issues. She is a Professor of History and Biography and Memoir at The Graduate Center, CUNY. Dr. Ford has received numerous awards and honors for her impactful research, which has been supported by esteemed institutions such as the Ford Foundation and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, among others. Her work has been featured in prestigious publications including the New York Times, the Atlantic, and ELLE. Dr. Spencer-Antoine, another distinguished historian, will also be part of the conversation. Her expertise lies in Black social protest after World War II, urban and working-class radicalism, and gender. She has previously published the acclaimed book "The Revolution Has Come: Black Power, Gender, and the Black Panther Party in Oakland." For her current project, Dr. Spencer-Antoine is a fellow at Harvard's Charles Warren Center for studies in American History, where she is exploring the intersections between the movement for Black liberation and the movement against the US war in Vietnam.
