KITCHENER MEDITATION CLASS TUESDAYS 7 PM - 8:15PM in person @ St Matthews Centre, Green Room 54 Benton St, Ktichener, ON Refuge from the Storm - Developing Authentic Self-Confidence 4- week series in September Just as we seek shelter from outer storms —thunderstorms, hurricanes, and blizzards—we also need inner protection from the storms that arise in the mind: inner storms of worry, anxiety, fear, anger, and discouragement and so forth. In Buddhism, inner protection is known as ‘refuge’ – relying on Buddha’s wisdom to eradicate our fears. Through establishing refuge in our hearts, we are able to generate a self-confident peaceful mind that will carry us through the storms of life. In this series of classes, we will explore the teachings of Venerable Atisha, the revered Indian master who introduced Buddhism to Tibet over a thousand years ago. Also known as the ‘Refuge Lama’, Atisha offered profound and compassionate advice on how to soothe the inner storms that destroy our inner peace. His timeless wisdom remains as relevant today to modern people as it was centuries ago. Each class presents a new topic with new contemplations and meditations for our training in overcoming anger and developing patience. Topics include: Developing authentic self-confidence Guarding the mind with alertness Practicing with steadfastness and joy This course is based on the book How to Solve Our Human Problems , Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life , and Meaningful to Behold . More information at akbc.ca Everyone welcome. $15 a class. $48 4-class pass (series pass). Tickets and passes can also be purchased at the door at class time. No need to pre-register. Koje su lepote glumačkog poziva , a koje težine i odricanja ona nosi – to su neka pitanja na koja odgovore prošarana komedijom donose Ljiljana Blagojević i Sonja Kolačarić u ovoj novoj predstavi. This knife making course is a 2 day intensive. Students will learn the detailed process of making a proper high-end handmade knife. This course will teach you every step for forging a hidden tang knife; from creating the blade from a raw piece of high carbon steel, to the final finishing of the wooden handle. A hidden tang knife is one where you cannot see how the blade is fixed to the handle, as the back part of knife is completely hidden. You will use a traditional coke forge to heat the steel, and hand hammering techniques to create the blade profile. After sanding and filing it to a refined shape, you will learn how to heat treat it by hardening and tempering it in the fire. You will then learn how to properly sharpen the blade’s edge. To finish off the knife, you will make a wooden handle from scratch, filing and sanding it to a beautiful finish, and then sealing it with oil. UK Calling: The Sound of an Era, Reimagined UK Calling brings to life the hits that most wouldn’t dare touch—Bronski Beat, The Style Council, The Cure—this is the soundtrack of a generation, performed with intensity, nuance, and flair. What sets this band apart isn’t just the setlist—it’s the spirit. More than just vintage sunglasses and a synth preset, this seven-piece outfit, complete with a full horn section, delivers a live show that’s electric, authentic, and relentlessly energetic. They don’t coast on nostalgia; they ignite it. From the unmistakable mood of Joy Division to the kinetic punch of Madness and the layered elegance of Tears for Fears, UK Calling doesn’t just play the songs—they inhabit them. And with Peter James Fox at the helm—a frontman whose tenor voice is as commanding as it is captivating—audiences are swept into a full-bodied experience that’s impossible to resist. Described by fans as “just like the old CFNY,” UK Calling is Canada’s definitive tribute to the golden age of British alternative music. Think New Wave, 2 Tone Ska, and Post-Punk. No power ballads, no pop queens—just the cool, the bold, and the unforgettable. Since 2018, they’ve been filling venues and keeping dance floors alive across Ontario. If you know the era, you’ll find your favorites here. If you don’t, you’re about to discover why it mattered. Information Source: UK Calling | eventbrite

We are excited to invite you to attend the 4th annual Impact Film Festival (IFF). The festival celebrates inspiring social ventures and philanthropic organizations by screening a curated list of short films. Amazingly, Mathew Loguya, Executive Director of Feat Africa, will be joining us as our feature guest speaker. The film Ngongakinda (Resiliency) tells the story of Matthew and other South Sudanese refugees providing safe water and decent jobs in the Ugandan communities hosting the refugees. The event will take place at the Apollo Cinema in Kitchener on November 20th and will begin at 6 pm with a Champion's Dinner hosted at the space of the Apollo Theatre. At 7:00 pm, we'll begin our film festival, also at the Apollo Theatre. You are welcome to join us for dinner and the films or just for the film festival! For those who are unable to join in-person, we'll be hosting a YouTube Livestream event of the film festival and panel discussion (link will be sent in event reminder email). If you'd like to make a donation to SWSV and you don't require a charitable tax receipt, the Eventbrite registration has an option to donate to the project. If you prefer a tax receipt, you can donate to SWSV right now through Canada Helps * See below details on how to donate * and then return to continue your registration for the event. For reference, a donation of $10/month helps a family in East Africa purchase a water purifier that will provide safe drinking water for up to 25 years (and save that family about $1,000 in costs treating water related illnesses). See you at the Impact Film Festival 2025 on November 20! When donating through Canada Helps , select "Enviro-Stewards' Safe Water Social Ventures" from the dropdown menu (see illustration below). Join us as we watch inspiring short films from other organizations around the globe that are positively impacting people and our planet! Our yummy Korean Bibimbap meal will be crafted by the Elmira Market Cafe. This dish consists of rice, a protein (beef or vegetarian) that are stirred throughly before eating & drizzled with a mild or hot sauce. Information Source: Safe Water Social Ventures | eventbrite
