Outside In presents an exciting event featuring Kate Rawles and her incredible cycle journey along the length of South America. Join us in Manchester at the Cultplex venue to hear Kate speak about her awe-inspiring adventure, which took her along the spine of the Andes, the longest mountain chain in the world. Kate's bike, named Woody, was built using bamboo from the Eden Project in Cornwall, adding an eco-friendly touch to her remarkable journey.
Throughout her solo ride, Kate explored and championed biodiversity, shedding light on its importance and the need for its protection. Her route encompassed a diverse range of landscapes and ecosystems, from the stunning Caribbean coast to the iconic Peruvian Andes and even the Atacama desert and Bolivian salt flats. Along the way, she encountered individuals on the frontlines of nature conservation, including a school with a curriculum centered around turtles, advocates for protecting the world's smallest monkeys, local forest champions, anti-mining activists, a sustainable fishing fleet, and even a member of the Peruvian senate.
Kate returned from her journey inspired, shaken, and hopeful, with a strong conviction that biodiversity loss is just as crucial as climate change. She believes that addressing these interconnected challenges requires deep systemic change. As a passionate advocate, Kate utilizes adventurous journeys to raise awareness and inspire action regarding our most pressing environmental issues.
Don't miss the chance to hear Kate speak about her incredible experiences. The event will take place at Cultplex, Manchester's independent cinema, which is known for its rotating array of street food traders and a hidden gem of a beer garden. The venue is wheelchair accessible via an external ramp to a rear entrance, and extra staffing will be provided to assist those with accessibility requirements.
