Are you new to teaching practical cake craft in a Home Economics or college setting? This is the class for you! I have been teaching practical cake craft since it was introduced I believe around 10 years ago. I also have been involved in the assessment of the course and so I have a great overview to be able to share my knowledge and experience on a practical level with you. I am well aware of the specific demand for a practical class like this and therefore would like to offer it. This class will focus on 4 of the finishing decoration techniques (piping, crimping, embossing & commercial aids). You will leave with a cake that you have decorated for your family to enjoy as well as a cake dummy that you can use to try out your new skills on. You will also leave with multiple resources that you are welcome to use in school and an unknown number of hints and tips to take into your teaching. You will learn practical strategies to teach pupils as well as vital information around the assessment of the course. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions that you have in a smaller group setting. This course is in no way affiliated with, endorsed by or in anyway linked to SQA. Advanced Longform with Chris Grace Chris Grace (UCB, Baby Wants Candy) explores deeper and more sophisticated topics in longform improv, from how the speed and nature of early agreement can affect and inform show structure, to laying the groundwork for narrative structure, to determining what the show needs halfway through to stick a super satisfying conclusion. Chris is best known as Jerry on NBC’s Superstore, and recently appeared as Duane in Netflix’s The Residence. He tours internationally with Baby Wants Candy and UCB, and appears frequently on Dropout. This August, he’ll debut a new project at the Edinburgh Fringe called “27 Hours” in which he attempts to write a new hour-long show each day of the festival. Tour de 4 is an exciting new cycling initiative inspired by Sir Chris Hoy’s vision to change perceptions around stage 4 cancer, following his own diagnosis. This inaugural event encourages everyone affected by cancer, whether directly or indirectly, to come together and ride for a cause that matters. Anyone who can ride a bike is invited to participate, helping to challenge misconceptions and raise vital funds for cancer charities across the UK. For those who are unable to cycle on the road but still want to be part of the Tour de 4 community, our Yellow Ride will feature static bikes set up in the centre of the iconic Sir Chris Hoy velodrome. Choosing between 1 and 20 minutes, depending on your individual goals and health, participants of the Yellow ride can enjoy the Tour de 4 experience in a controlled environment while connected with other members of the community. With some special guests joining the static bike experience, we promise this will be a special moment to be part of! As a participant in the static bike segment, you will receive two wristbands: one for yourself and one for a guest, granting access to the Tour de 4 Festival. These will be held in the Emirates Arena Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. For more details on participation and additional information, please visit our website: Tour de 4 Website . Paul Harrison's Trio Mágico Paul Harrison - Piano Mario Caribe - Bass Stu Brown - Drums with Laura MacDonald - Alto Saxophone Rachel Lightbody - Vocals Paul Harrison's Trio Mágico and guests : ENCONTROS - ALBUM LAUNCH This concert will celebrate the release of jazz pianist Paul Harrison's long awaited new album "Encontros" - which brings home to Scotland the warmth and spark of Brazilian music, specifically the melodies of Egberto Gismonti. The album is the culmination of years of exploration and discovery through improvising, and brings together a cast of international guest performers including Edmundo Carneiro, Fraser Fifield and Su-a Lee - in intimate duo settings as well as large ensembles - a dynamic tour-de-force.At the core is Paul's group Trio Mágico, three musicians who have played in Scotland, the UK and internationally for over twenty years. Expect the trio to be taken to new highs with the addition of two special guests from the album - saxophonist Laura Macdonald and vocalist Rachel Lightbody, both leading lights of the Scottish jazz scene "...has humour, has grace, has freedom to play." Egberto Gismonti About Paul Harrison Jazz pianist, organist, composer and arranger Paul Harrison was born in Manchester, England. As a youth he constantly showed an adeptness and interest in musical directions beyond (and counter to) where his teachers were leading him, and he was improvising long before he was exposed to jazz. He settled in Scotland after entering Edinburgh University on a prestigious piano scholarship, where, during his final year he was awarded the Tovey Memorial Prize. After graduating he turned away from his classical background while immersing himself in the burgeoning and supportive Scottish jazz scene. He won the Scottish regional final of the Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition in 1998 and again in 1999, both years going on to compete as one of six British finalists in London. In recent years Paul has been called on to play with many great outstanding international performers, including Chris Potter, David Binney, Bobby Watson, Jesse Davis, Lea DeLaria, Joe Locke, Ulf Wakenius and Warren Vache. In 2009 Paul won the award for Best Pianist at the first Scottish Jazz Awards ceremony, and in 2011 received another award for Best Project for his composition The Hospitalfield Suite. In 2010 Paul was commissioned by the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra to write an arrangement of music by Miles Davis for guitarist John Scofield to play. Recent projects include two CDs with contemporary jazz saxophonist and highly distinctive composer Martin Kershaw, and a UK tour with saxophonist and composer Phil Bancroft’s Home, Small as the World show. In 2012 he tackled setting to music to the words of Scots poet William Soutar for a theatre show In a Sma Room. More recently he can be seen in an experimental duet Herschel 36 with percussionist Stuart Brown in which they play extended, freely improvised electronic music. Paul now teaches on the jazz degree course at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Information Source: Jazz at The Merchants House | eventbrite
