Come along to my workshop in Thorniley Studios for the perfect beginners course in traditional silversmithing and jewellery making techniques. We will explore some basic techniques including sawing, soldering and shaping/forming to create a simple sterling silver ring. The silver we will be using is 100% recycled and all materials are provided. By the end of the afternoon you will have your very own silver ring to take home, handmade by you. The workshop lasts about 4 hours and the design of the ring is a simple silver band with either a mirror polish or hammered textured finish (see photos below). If you are interested in making something more bespoke I offer private workshops. More information can be found here. The composer himself played the piano part at its 1924 premiere – and tonight, Wayne Marshall serves as both soloist and conductor for this Jazz Age masterwork. The German National Orchestra completes the programme with two much-loved works from our side of the Atlantic. An afternoon of spoon making with Ella at Manchester Craft and Design Centre. We will cover a whole variety of traditional pewtersmtihing skills to create your own unique spoon design. Ella will guide you through each process with demonstrations as you learn how to hammer a flat sheet of metal into a spoon bowl. We will then use molten pewter to cast ingots for the handles before personalising your spoon using a variety of letter stamping, shaping and hammering before polishing for you to take home. A handmade spoon for lots of yummy treats! Suitable for beginners or those with previous silver or jewellery experience. FAQs What should I bring to the event? All materials are provided including tea, coffee and biscuits as well as aprons and design inspiration however if you have any doodles or pictures of ideas you'd like to make please do bring them along. We will be using tools and molten metal so please wear closed toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty, though aprons are provided. During this workshop Ella will guide you through the process of adding texture and pattern to sheet pewter, a lead free metal before using hammers, formers, letter punches, piercing saws, soldering and polishing techniques to finish your jewellery . We will use textures and foraged dried leaves or petals (green fresh leaves don't work) to print on the pewter using a traditional metalwork tool called a rolling mill. Ella will have a large selection for you to choose from but please do feel free to bring along interesting textures to try - items less than 5mm thick such as lace, paper stencils or dried leaves work well. We will then use hammers and piercing tools to shape your jewellery (approx 2-3 made per workshop) before polishing so you can proudly wear them home. A fun workshop to create your own unique piece of jewellery. Suitable for beginners or those with previous silver or jewellery experience. FAQs What should I bring to the event? All materials are provided including tea, coffee and biscuits as well as aprons and design inspiration. Ella will have a large selection for you to choose from but please do feel free to bring along interesting textures to try - items less than 5mm thick such as lace, paper stencils or leaves work well. We will be using tools and soldering flames so please wear closed toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty, though aprons are provided. Winter workshops - Our Victorian building can get a bit chilly so please wear layers and/or bring a jumper. How can I contact the organiser with any questions? Just the name the booking was made with and we'll tick you off our list. What's the refund policy? If you find you can no longer attend the workshop please inform Ella at ella@ellamcintosh.co.uk at your earliest convenience. A full refund (minus eventbrite fee) will be given up to 30 days before the workshop date. After 30 days prior Ella will try to fill your space using her reserve list, social media or you can transfer the ticket to somebody of your choice. If a new attendee can be found a full refund (minus eventbrite fee) will be given, unfortunately if your place cannot be filled we will be unable to issue a refund. Where is Studio 10? The class will be held in Ellas dedicated workshop space new to her studio at Manchester Craft and Design Centre, a short walk from Piccadilly and Victoria train station.
