Arts Painting
Date: September 13th Location: Westover Gallery, Bournemouth Time: TBC Step into a vibrant world of expression, texture, and storytelling at Meet Sannib: A Journey Through Colour and Canvas— an exclusive evening celebrating the work of acclaimed contemporary artist Sannib. Known for his bold and evocative portraiture, Sannib reimagines iconic figures of the 20th century through a unique lens of abstraction and layered visual narrative. Each piece is a striking blend of classic inspiration and modern execution — familiar faces transformed into dynamic works of art that are both thought-provoking and visually arresting. With a background in graphic design and an accomplished career in international advertising, Sannib brings a designer’s eye and a storyteller’s soul to his artistic process. His mixed media style combines textured paintwork, graphic precision, and a colour palette drawn from the natural world — earthy golds, ocean blues, and grounded neutrals that convey emotion and elegance in equal measure. There is an ecological emergency in English rivers. The human and wildlife population are at risk. Today, in England, only 14% of rivers are in good ecological health & none are in good chemical health. In 2021, the environmental performance of the UK’s water & sewage companies fell to the lowest level on record, with little improvement since. In a densely residential part of East Bristol runs a serene section of the River Avon which attracts crowds of swimmers in the summer and a regular rotation of cold-water swimmers in winter. It offers solace and healing for those struggling with mental health issues and a free outdoor activity for local lower-income families. But the Bristol Council prohibits swimming in the river, and it’s often filled with dangerous levels of raw sewage, chemical pollution and farm run-off. This leaves everyone with a dilemma; for all the benefits the river gives them, it could potentially cause them even greater harm. Three local swimmers formed the Conham Bathing Group, a citizen-led water testing programme to help raise awareness of the poor water quality in the Avon. The Conham Bathing Group is applying for Designated Bathing Water Status (DBWS). Officially designated Bathing Waters are the only blue spaces where water quality is regularly monitored for its effect on human health, and legal obligations are put on polluting industries to clean up their act. In the UK there are currently only 3 stretches of river with this status, all of which have been won through local campaigns. ‘Rave On For The Avon’ features a tapestry of people who love and fight for this river, illustrating how much there is to lose if the Avon continues to face unending pollution. This film delivers a sense of urgency about the critical state of the River Avon and how much the locals rely on it for their health and wellbeing. It galvanises audiences to campaign for policy change in the UK and abroad. We screened the film to local Councillors in Bristol to support Conham Bathing's launch of the Thriving Avon Charter, a document created by the river guardian community laying out policy recommendations for the Avon. Ticket price includes free tea and coffee. Information Source: Transition Bournemouth | eventbrite

About The Orchard Garden Orchard Garden is a wildflower green space, built by our community, for our community. The Orchard Garden was created and developed by our community of garden volunteers. Now serving as a community space, The Orchard Garden project provides nature craft workshops, volunteering opportunities, and our garden skills programme. Built during the 2015 refurbishment of TOSH, The Orchard Garden initially contained just four fruit trees, with spring bulbs and wildflowers growing up each Summer. Having received two years of funding in January 2023, we consulted with our community to commission a new garden design. Our theme was 'Food for Us, Food for Nature', designed to be a sanctuary for our community to rest, learn, grow and harvest in. The Orchard Garden, developed over 2023 and 2024, was largely built by our community of volunteers, made up of local residents, refugees, and asylum seekers. Building The Orchard Garden The garden was built with nature and community at heart. Recycled materials were used to build our pathways and seating, and our garden bench was made from recycled plastic. Members of our community groups at TOSH created terracotta tiles to be embedded into the seating circle, and the international women of Seeking Refuge Project’s ‘Threads’ group sewed cushion covers and bunting. Local charity Faithworks and their workshop team created our arbour seat. Since undergoing the garden build, 14 new fruit trees have been planted, as well as climbers, wild flowers and bulbs. The Orchard Garden officially opened in July 2024. To commemorate this milestone, we were joined by over 100 people at our Open Day event, sharing global foods and enjoying nature themed crafts. Now an annual celebration, the garden offers an opportunity for our diverse communities to come together, celebrating this inclusive space and all that it represents. This project has been made possible with funding from the People’s Health Trust using money raised by Health Lottery South West. We have also received donations from JPMorgan, Wessex Water and more. Every Monday afternoon, 1.30pm-3pm, TOSH provides free Nature Crafts & Gardening workshops for our diverse community in Boscombe. If you or anyone you know would benefit from this welcoming and inclusive space, please contact our Garden Coordinator melinda@recreatedorset.co.uk , or pop in on a Monday afternoon to see what we are up to. Overview Give your child a positive, empowered start to puberty and menstruation by bringing them to their once-in-a-lifetime special First Moon Circle experience. Our next First Moon Circle on Saturday 20th September is for girls and their mothers and female caregivers to gather to learn and celebrate the changes that puberty brings. An empowering, fun, sacred and inclusive circle that goes way beyond school's basic, limited period education and focuses instead on cycle self-care and self love so children feel prepared, informed, confident and supported to experience puberty and their first periods. About the First Moon Circle Your daughter will love this beautiful, magical activity where she can learn all about how she can look after herself as she grows up. Covering self-care, and teaching her how to get the best out of her superpowers as she begins her cycle, First Moon Circles are proving a fun and enjoyable way for girls to learn, play, and feel supported at a pivotal time in their lives. Your child will receive an amazing high-value gift bag and their own beaded bracelet that they'll make with you during the session to remind her of what she learns. Plus she'll get to keep a 22-page booklet that explains all the knowledge and wisdom she'll need to support her through puberty and into adulthood. Mothers/caregivers often learn something in this too. The final part of this session is a beautiful Mother-Daughter celebration where you can gift your child advice, wishes and show her you're supporting her as she grows up. Topics covered include: What puberty and periods are and what to expect What is healthy and normal, and when and how to ask for help How to choose and use different menstrual products What the menstrual cycle is vs a period, and how to navigate changing moods, energies, capacities, strengths and vulnerabilities in each phase Menstrual cycle self-care Mother-child blessing to support your relationship and period positivity at home Each child will receive: A take-home gift bag featuring her own 'moon kit' (a combination of sanitary samples, and beautiful self-care items to remind her of this special day) A 22 page keepsake colour illustrated guidebook written for children full of the wisdom and knowledge to remember what she's learnt to come back to again and again Her own handmade beaded bracelet to remind her of the magic of her cycle and self-care About Ellie Ellie completed her First Moon Circle training in May 2025 with Charlotte Pointeaux, founder of First Moon Circles.
