In fact, the tour guide was very dedicated. Why didn&#39;t I give her an excellent rating? It&#39;s because I don&#39;t know if I didn&#39;t make a good choice or I didn&#39;t have any choice at all. The Shanxi Museum is so big with so many exhibition halls. During our two and a half hours of tour, the young lady chose to start talking about ancient times, which took up too much time, probably at least an hour. Even though the young lady has a wealth of knowledge, this part is really useless (or not very attractive to me). It would be better to spend this precious time on the &quot;Yingxian Wooden Pagoda&quot; on the fourth floor, or the Shanxi ancient buildings on the third floor, which are more Shanxi-style and more attractive!

Taiyuan Botanical Garden, a beloved hideaway for artistic youth, boasts a 90,000-square-meter botanical kingdom, making any casual photo opportunity feel like being transported to the Wizard of Oz. The gardens boast a tropical rain shower, a psammophyte pavilion, a seasonal flower pavilion, and an insect collection&mdash;it&#39;s incredibly large. But it seems people aren&#39;t there to see the plants; they&#39;re mainly there to see the internet-famous starry sky elevator. Many people visit the botanical garden specifically for this iconic ride. We visited at the end of August, but it was still packed, with long lines forming. The night view is truly stunning, romantic, and dreamy.

I never imagined that this peaceful Buddhist temple would become a great place for children! While visiting Shanxi with our kids, we discovered this hidden gem during our stay in Taiyuan: the Mengshan Giant Buddha!

⛰️ Tour Tips
We took our kids here during summer vacation. We visited several attractions during the day and opted to take a nap at the hotel during the hottest afternoon. Entering Mengshan in the evening brought a cooler breeze, allowing us to enjoy both daytime and nighttime scenery, and the kids could even play in the stream.

🌳 Must-See Spots
1️⃣ Mengshan Giant Buddha: This cliff-carved Buddha, 162 years older than the Leshan Giant Buddha, is incredibly stunning from above, standing in the square in front of the statue. Let your kids touch the rock of the Buddha&#39;s body, share the story of the Northern Qi Dynasty carving the Buddha, and receive free incense and blessings for a truly memorable experience.
2️⃣ Twin Pagodas: The two ancient pagodas are connected at their bases, creating a beautifully symmetrical photo opportunity. The ancient walnut trees in front of the pagodas are incredibly spiritual, and the children can pitch a tent and rest in the surrounding open space. 3️⃣ Lighting Ceremony: For night tours, be sure to wait for the lighting ceremony at 8:20 PM. When the lights come on, the Buddha is bathed in a golden glow, creating a majestic and warm atmosphere that will captivate children.
4️⃣ There&#39;s a platform halfway up the mountain where you can feed pigeons. Nearby are numerous coffee, tea, and snack shops, perfect for a relaxing stroll.

🚗 Transportation Guide
1️⃣ Driving or Taxi: Navigate to &quot;Mengshan Scenic Area Parking Lot,&quot; 10 RMB per day. Binhe West Road is easy to access and has no traffic. Park and walk to the entrance in 5 minutes.
2️⃣ Public Transportation: From downtown, take bus No. 58 or 329 directly to the scenic area. The 1 RMB price is a great deal, and don&#39;t miss the last bus returning at 7 PM.

⚠️ Tips
1️⃣ Wear soft-soled shoes and bring sunscreen. The trail is hilly and there&#39;s little shade on the summit. For those with average stamina, we recommend taking the one-way sightseeing bus (6 RMB) to save energy and enjoy the scenery. 2️⃣ Tickets are 50 yuan at the door, but some tour groups charge only 35 yuan in advance. Seniors over 60 and children under 1.3 meters are free. We bought the Shanxi Cultural Tourism Annual Pass, which includes free admission to the Mengshan Giant Buddha!
3️⃣ The Jinyang Ancient City Ruins and the Jin Temple Museum are also nearby, both about a 10-minute taxi ride away.
4️⃣ You can enjoy the water halfway up the mountain, where many local children play and cool off. If you&#39;re staying in Taiyuan, prepare a change of clothes and a towel and allow an extra hour or two to let the children play. 🉑 There are vendors selling water guns and other tools at the entrance.

Recommendation: Go early to avoid long lines. Leave early as parking is expensive.

Shanxi Grand Theater in Transformation
From a distance, I couldn&#39;t imagine what kind of building it was, but it was very grand and charming. When I got closer, I was surprised that there was such an elegant place in such an empty place. Although I didn&#39;t see the bustling image of people coming in and out, the high-end and elegant architectural design was unforgettable.
Come on, friends, the exterior of Shanxi Grand Theater is attractive enough!
