🇬🇧 Dover, UK | Last Cruise Stop
Today's itinerary: A 30,000-step walk, still a free day trip
The Port of Dover is the UK's gateway to continental Europe, approximately 34 kilometers from Calais, France, earning it the nickname "The Gateway to England." It's the shortest and most important sea route between the UK and continental Europe. Numerous ferries, cargo ships, and cruise ships arrive and depart daily, maintaining the UK's connection to Europe.
My free day trip itinerary:
From the cruise port, follow the coastal path to #DoverBeach to watch the locals swim. Then, walk into the city to see the ancient #ClockTower and the historic buildings in the city center.
Further into the city, don't miss the #MaisonDieu, meaning "the house of God." Built in the 13th century, it served as free accommodation and a hospital for pilgrims. It's free to visit, and there are enthusiastic guides.
After visiting St. Mary and St. James Churches, we finally tackled the #WhiteCliffsWalk, enjoying the sea breeze and the pristine white cliffs while overlooking the bustling Dover Harbor below.
Dover has many free attractions, but by the end, my legs were sore that I'll have to save them for next time.
If you're coming by cruise ship, you can enjoy a rewarding day without spending a dime.
