Taisho Koto is a small plucked instrument with a keyboard, which is related to the Taisho era in Japan. It is said that it was created in 1912 (the first year of the Taisho era) by Morita Goro, the eldest son of the owner of the Morita-ya Ryokan in Osu, Nagoya, Japan. Taisho Koto is also called Phoenix Koto. It has a simple structure, is easy to play, and has a crisp tone, which is deeply loved by the Japanese people.
When playing Taisho Koto, the right hand picks the strings and the left hand presses the keyboard to produce sound. The right hand plucking the strings is the playing method of Chinese instruments, and the left hand pressing the keys is the keyboard instrument of Western music, so Taisho Koto is a combination of Chinese and Western instruments.
And the instrument with the characteristics of both string instruments and keyboard instruments is unique so far.

I was fortunate to listen to the wonderful sound of Taisho Koto in Japan. Actually, there is a WING building opposite the Takanawa exit of JR Shinagawa Station. Just walk straight inside from the building and the outdoor escalator.
