What to expect from the course: An AcroYoga class combines elements of yoga, acrobatics, and Thai massage to create a unique and playful practice that focuses on communication, trust, and connection between partners. Here's what you can generally expect from an AcroYoga class: Warm-up: Like any physical practice, an AcroYoga class typically starts with a warm-up session to prepare your body for movement. This might include light stretching, breathing exercises, and joint mobility work. Partner Work: AcroYoga is practiced with a partner or in small groups. You'll pair up with someone (or multiple people) to perform various poses and movements together. The class may include both static poses and dynamic flows. Spotting and Safety: Safety is a priority for us, and you will be given support and drills to start mastering your role as a spotter . This role is important in facilitating the practice and to prevent accidents or injuries. Spotters are responsible for ensuring that the flyer (the person being lifted or supported) is safe during poses and transitions. Working with a spotter allows you to progress more effectively and safely, and therefore, have more fun in the process. Spotters can sometimes act as a guide especially when you're upside down or when the movement is initially super complicated. Roles: We will be focusing in detail the two main roles during this course. In AcroYoga, there are typically two primary roles: Base: The person who provides the foundational support for the flyer. The base typically has most of their body on the ground and is responsible for lifting and balancing the flyer. Flyer: The person who is lifted, balanced, or supported by the base. Flyers focus on maintaining balance and engaging their core and limbs to create beautiful and dynamic shapes. Communication: Clear and effective communication is crucial in AcroYoga. You'll learn specific hand signals or verbal cues to communicate with each other. Advanced Screen Acting (Spring Term) - Every Monday Evening, 7.00pm to 9.00pm - 13th January to 17th February 2025 This 6-week developmental course in screen acting is for professional-level actors. If you are looking to maintain and improve your work on camera between acting jobs, then this is the place for you. This course is led by film director and acting coach Anthony Vander. Anthony Vander is an award-winning filmmaker and producer. In 2023 his was accepted as a full BAFTA member for his considerable contribution to the film industry. Anthony's work was featured during We Are Parable and British Film Institute 'WHO WE ARE' season in July 2020 which shined a light at Black British filmmakers in the UK. His first short film ‘Hooligan’ screened at The Short Film Corner at Cannes Film Festival in 2012. In 2014, Anthony’s directorial debut feature film, 'Sweetboy' had its North American première at the American Black Film Festival and in 2017 aired on London Live television multiple times. Anthony's fifth short film 'Finale' played at the Bafta qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival 2021. Entry to the group is by invitation or audition, so you can be confident that in these classes you will be working with fellow actors who will challenge and inspire you. The sessions will mirror the intensity and discipline of working on set, so you can develop the confidence and resilience needed to deliver great acting performances in front of the camera. Actors trained at Collective have gone on to work in Hollywood films, on Broadway, for the National Theatre, in the West End and in series for Netflix, HBO, BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Our speaker spent much time on and off in Russia and was brought up in a family of Russian art collectors; with her master’s thesis on the restoration of Alexander Palace and having worked in New York and the Hillwood Museum in Washington DC, Cynthia is well placed to give a fascinating insight into this beautiful building. Vivienne's extensive independent research has led to the rediscovery of several overlooked mediumistic artists and the publication of many articles and contributions to exhibition catalogues. As the former curator and archivist from 2016 to 2024 at The College of Psychic Studies in London, she managed a large collection of spirit-inspired art, photographs, and artefacts. Her expertise has shaped several major exhibitions, including Strange Things Among Us (2021) and Creative Spirits (2022). Vivienne is also a member of the Visionary Women Research Group and the British Art Network.
