The Studio Stool Course in Plymouth, held at The Weld Space, offers a comprehensive learning experience for beginners and those interested in working with metal. Led by experienced metal fabricator and designer Richard Evans, this one-day course explores the art of MIG welding and furniture fabrication.
Participants will have the opportunity to create their own contemporary stool using metal fabrication techniques such as MIG and MMA welding, tube bending, and metalwork assembly. The course begins with cutting lengths of mild steel tubing using a metal saw, followed by using a metal bender to shape the curves of the stool. Attention to detail is emphasized, with a focus on maintaining accuracy and equal dimensions through understanding the center-line radius.
Throughout the course, participants will learn how to use a jig to weld the sections of the stool together, as well as apply various finishing techniques to the steel frame. The final touch is adding a beautiful wooden seat top. By the end of the day, participants will leave with a sturdy and stylish stool for their home or office, as well as a solid understanding of metal preparation and fabrication.
