Join us for light drinks and refreshments in the Waverley Library Galleries to celebrate the work of Sue Field. Local artist Sue Field’s most recent exhibition An Absent Presence was informed by a recent residency in France and her established writing and drawing practice. Across Field’s work, the viewer is left with the ambivalent sense that someone has just left the room, exited the stage or even fled. Field’s dramatic scenes are presented as theatres without actors; they are densely detailed drawings with compelling layers of symbolism and meaning to be explored. In this exhibition, we, the audience, have arrived on the scene too late to do anything. Instead, we become witnesses or even forensic investigators interrogating what has occurred. Kentucky is drafting new statewide plans for recycling and waste management, and is seeking input from those in the waste management, recycling, sustainability, education, local government, or other associated fields. Blueprint Kentucky, the Kentucky Division of Waste Management, and University of Kentucky Recycling are partnering to draft these plans based on feedback from guided community conversations discussing the strengths, weaknesses, gaps, and needs of infrastructure, education, and policy surrounding waste management. These conversations will help determine what goes into the new Sustainable Materials Management plan. One session will be held in each area development district, with additional city-specific sessions, but all are welcome to attend any event that is convenient. The meeting is specifically targeting those living or working through the FIVCO Area Development District counties of Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup, and Lawrence. These guided community conversations will help us draft the following plans: Sustainable Materials Management Plan Circular Economy Strategies Economic Impact Study By talking through considerations around the waste stream, dumping, landfills, and waste management broadly we will be able to identify common strengths, weaknesses, gaps, and hopes to include in these plans. Come along and meet other creatives in the community led by Waverley Library, for informal sessions on the art of cut & paste. Each lesson you will explore different elements of collage and immerse yourself in this unique form of art that has had a resurgence in popularity. All ages and skill levels are welcome to attend but the class is best suited for adults. Network with other collagists and unwind after work in all things paper art. You are welcome to create anything on the night and share your ideas with the group. All materials are provided but a portfolio or carry case to take your work home with. Almost anything can be collaged with. Just use your imagination. This is an informal class in a relaxed atmosphere The class will be lead by library staff member who is also a member of the Sydney Collage Society. You don't need to be a library member to attend our events but we value your membership and would love you to join.
