Kollab is back for 2025 with two exciting new (to us) acts to introduce to you! Singer song-writer Charlie O'Connor blends folk, blues, rock, and soul with a rebellious Celtic spirit. Drummer and composer Fred Hills (accompanied by Alfie Weedon on double bass) layers beats, strings and sounds - inspired by jazz, folk and indie - in his own unique style.
More info about both acts below.
As usual there's plenty of slots available in the Open Mic, all forms of creativity welcome - poems, stories, songs, comedy, dance... or surprise us! Please email katrinabysea@gmail.com to be added to the lineup. Or just come to listen, that's just as important and valued! There's no bar, so please bring your own drinks, hot or cold, alcohol or otherwise. *We'll start promptly at 7pm* Looking forward to seeing you, Katrina x CHARLIE O'CONNOR Charlie O'Connor is a sensitive creative weirdo celebrating women, humanity, and art. Based in Brighton, UK, with Celtic roots, she is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, writer, poet, music coach, and leader of Brighton's witchiest community singing group The Coven Choir. She writes The Howl at the Moon Post, a somewhat public moon journal exploring music, life, soul, vulnerability, and art, featuring exclusive music demos. Drawing from nature and folklore, her Celtic-inspired songwriting weaves tales of wonder and wisdom. Mischievous and witty by nature, she guides audiences through a spectrum of catharsis—a journey through all emotions—leaving them feeling both held and empowered. FRED HILLS Fred Hills is a drummer, composer & collaborator based in Brighton, UK. Taking inspiration from a wide range of genres, Hills' music is a captivating blend of contemporary jazz, alt-folk & progressive indie. His debut EP, ‘Incerto’, released via Ninja Tune, is ‘a tapestry of delicate and expressive guitars, eloquent strings and colourful rhythms’, as described by Indie Band Guru. Fred's latest release, 'The Ground', is a fine example of Fred's ability to diversify his sound, trading his folk sensibilities for dynamic lyricism, expansive production and punchy drum grooves. This morning was the first time I have woken up feeling joyful without and dread dreams in the night for about two weeks. You created a really safe space and welcoming event. Loved your poems and they way you perform them is so engaging and absorbing. Marvellous. Thank you Kollab last night was fab, and you hold the space in such a lovely, relaxed, friendly, helpful, kind, and yet still very organised (!) way. Also, amazing poetry!
