With their elegant down-turned bills and their hauntingly beautiful call, Curlews are an iconic part of the Lancashire springtime landscape. However, Curlews in Lancashire are at risk. Their numbers are dwindling, and soon this much-loved wading bird may disappear from our pastures, fields and moorlands. In this talk, William Titley, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art, will present his journal of one-minute videos that reveal the life of a Curlew family during the summer breeding season in the uplands of far east Lancashire. William’s current research involves working with local communities, schools and farmers to raise awareness of the plight of the Curlew bird.
