Experience the beauty of the Upper Newport Bay through a unique and educational bike ride led by knowledgeable naturalists. Join dedicated volunteers from the Newport Bay Conservancy for "Biking the Bay," a guided bike ride suitable for riders with moderate experience. This exciting adventure takes you along 10 miles of scenic paved bike trails, with frequent breaks for interpretation and discovery.
The journey begins at the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center parking lot, where you'll embark on a captivating exploration to the Back Bay Science Center, before returning to the Muth Center. Along the way, you'll make stops at iconic locations such as Jamboree Bridge, Big Canyon, and Vista Point, where interpretive displays will enlighten you about the history and significance of the bay.
As you pedal through the picturesque landscapes, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the natural wonders of the Upper Newport Bay while engaging in moderate physical activity. The ride offers a safe and guided experience, ensuring that you can fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the trail while learning about the important work of the Newport Bay Conservancy.
Please note that to participate in "Biking the Bay," advanced registration is required, walk-up registration is not permitted. It is essential to arrive fully equipped with necessary biking gear for your safety. Before commencing the activity, all participants must sign a liability waiver. Failure to adhere to these protocols may result in being unable to join the ride.
We kindly request that if you are feeling unwell, displaying any symptoms of illness, or have recently been in contact with someone who was ill, to refrain from signing up or attending the event. The health and well-being of all participants, volunteers, and employees are of utmost importance.
Keep in mind that adverse weather conditions may lead to the cancellation of the event, and the direction of travel on the bike route is subject to change at the discretion of the naturalist leader.
To fully enjoy "Biking the Bay," we recommend wearing sunglasses or eye protection, a helmet, weather-appropriate athletic attire, and closed-toe shoes. Remember to bring your bike, water, snacks, sunscreen, and a pump and patch kit. This unforgettable experience will not only allow you to appreciate the natural wonders of the bay but also provide insights into the recreational, educational, and stewardship opportunities available.
