But with the rise of generative artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, which are built on large language models, digital takes on a new dimension. Whatever you want an AI tool to do, the prompt, which are the instructions you give, must be written. Since the emergence of ‘AI for all’ barely two years ago, there has been a proliferation of courses in ‘prompt engineering’. But is it just a matter of engineering, or does interacting with AI actually require creative writing to go beyond the predictable? What does it mean to speak the language of the tool well? And how can we find ways to talk with machines instead of as machines? With Poetics of Prompting, The Hmm and MU Hybrid Art House explore the new languages that emerge from and around the collaboration between AI and human creativity, between prompting and poetry. Come and have a play with textures and ink with a cosy workshop in my new studio 52, 2nd Floor in the Apparatenfabriek Strijp S (full address- Torenallee 26 - Studio 52, 5617 BD Eindhoven). This manual print technique is fun, easy to learn and has lots of possibilities to develop beautiful printed monochromatic images. For this season we’ll be focusing on producing abstract landscapes. Working from landscape photos (feel free to bring your own if you have them) we’ll use a variety of (natural) materials to build the ‘plate’, the base we print from. You’ll receive a printed guide and a folio for taking your prints and plates home. This is an extended 3.5 hour workshop so we can really go in-depth with this versatile process. Please arrive on time so we can start! Suitable for Beginners (15yrs+) No drawing or printing experience necessary; we’ll provide everything for you to learn the technique under the guidance of illustrator Laura Carter. Join us for an engaging evening in the studio, studying the 'vintage apothecary'-themed display and working on some beautiful botanical studies. Confident Beginner + (18yrs+) For this session we'll be working in a Trompe-l'oeil style (an illusion of 3D) in which I'll be giving my specific techniques. If you have experience with watercolour /art and/or drawing: that's a great headstart, if not: you can still achieve beautiful results, you'll just need to bring your focus and enjoy the challenge! We’ll provide everything for you to learn the basic style under the guidance of illustrator Laura Carter. The display will be set up in a vintage naturalist style, with a choice of dried and fresh botanicals to work from. Whether you work quick and dirty or in careful, tiny detail (see the difference in first and last photos: I've used both!) the techniques can be adapted to your style of art-making. We can also add some coloured pencil for fun and flair. You'll pick up the fundamentals which can be applied to any painting subject, not just botanicals, and take home a printed guide I've carefully made up for you, along with the studies you produce.
