A Little Bit of Blue | Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre
Apr 15, 2025 (UTC+8)ENDED
Harvey
Learn about a most curious creature with this interactive Detective Story!Watch a 30 second preview of the show A Little Bit of Blue is an interactive environmental detective story, told with puppetry. As well as unravelling a mystery, it involves learning about the unique habits of an extraordinary Australian animal, the Satin Bowerbird, and their fascination for the colour blue. It is a fun frolicking mix of Detective Noir, slapstick, with some interesting facts thrown in.
Mavis’s world is turned upside-down by small disappearances. Something has gone missing and is nowhere to be found. Mrs Hooley has been looking everywhere. But it’s not just today. Every day a new thing seems to disappear. Little things. A $10 note. Clothes pegs. A ball of wool. It’s troubling at first, but the thief then takes it one step too far
Mavis calls in a Detective to investigate. The Detective, Harry McGee, an adorable fool, makes a mess of the investigation, and the children love always being one step of ahead of him. They set a trap for the burglar. A stake out is required. In the dead of night, and the Detective indeed finds something peculiar.... The children’s role is to help him solve the case.
Jenny Ellis, a puppeteer of more than twenty years, weaves the whole mystery together, sometimes playing three characters at once. The young audience will gasp with surprise, sigh with the sadness, shout in outrage, cheer with triumph, and dance with joy as they follow the sneaky bowerbird on his journey to find love.

Apr 15, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Chicago
Love, Rita: A Book Signing & Conversation with Bridgett M. Davis Join us for an evening of storytelling, remembrance, and celebration as we honor love and sisterhood. In collaboration with Da Book Joint and the South Side Community Art Center, we are proud to present a special Book Signing & Discussion for Love, Rita, the transformative memoir by acclaimed author Bridgett M. Davis in an intergenerational dialogue on love, memory & legacy in conversation with, cultural worker and SSCAC Public Programs and Engagement manager, jada-amina. Date: April 15, 2025 Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Location: Da Book Joint, 6900 S. Stony Island Ave, Chicago About Love, Rita A searing tribute to sisterhood and family, profound love and loss, from the acclaimed author of The World According to Fannie Davis. Bridgett M. Davis tells the story of her beloved older sister Rita, who knew her before she knew herself. Just four years apart in age, the sisters evolved from childhood rivals into best friends, navigating the joys and struggles of Black womanhood together. Rita was a force—attending Fisk University at sixteen, becoming a car test driver, an amateur belly dancer, earning her MBA, and ultimately serving as a beloved special education teacher. She lived boldly and fearlessly, shaping Bridgett’s understanding of what it meant to truly embrace life. When Rita’s life was tragically cut short by lupus at forty-four, Bridgett was left with one heartbreaking question: Why Rita? In this stunning memoir, she crafts a brave and beautiful homage—not only celebrating the extraordinary bond of sisterhood but also illuminating what it means to live, love, and die as a Black woman in America. Pre-order your copy of Love, Rita when you register for the event. Books will be available for pick-up on-site during the signing. Limited quantities will be available for purchase at the event, so reserving your copy in advance is recommended Why Attend? • Meet Bridgett M. Davis in person and have your copy of Love, Rita signed. • Engage in a thought-provoking conversation about sisterhood, memory, and legacy. • Experience the warmth and community of Da Book Joint, a space dedicated to literature and Black storytelling. • Celebrate this collaboration between Da Book Joint and the South Side Community Art Center, two institutions committed to preserving and uplifting Black art and culture.
