Attention International Travellers
Help keep Canada’s farm animals safe
Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a serious virus that spreads easily among animals like cattle, pigs, and sheep. While Canada is free of FMD, it is present in other parts of the world (Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Asia, Africa, and South America).
To reduce the risk of spreading FMD:
Avoid all contact with livestock or wildlife for
5 days
after returning to Canada.
If you're coming from a country without official FMD-free status, avoid farms or livestock for
at least 14 days
