Call Me By My Name | The Phee Broadway Theatre, Barker Street, Castlemaine VIC, Australia
Arts
Experience the incredible event "Call Me By My Name" at The Phee Broadway Theatre in Castlemaine. This family-friendly event showcases thought-provoking videos created by young people, ages 6 to 90, that challenge common myths and break silences. Join us on February 1, 2024, to watch two short videos, each 8-10 minutes long, produced by Tasmanian LGBTQA+ students. These videos candidly address frequently asked questions about the queer experience, such as "Isn't it just a phase?" and "Isn't being queer just the latest trend?" The videos have already made an impact, as they were presented to VIPs at Parliament House in Hobart, Tasmania. They highlight the urgent need for safety, recognition, rights, justice, and respect for all young LGBTQA+ individuals. Following the screening, be part of a Q&A session with the talented creators and participants of the videos. These individuals have traveled all the way from Tasmania to Castlemaine to share their insights and answer questions about the content and audience reactions. This event has attracted an intergenerational audience, including teachers, students as young as 6, medical professionals, social workers, parents, community workers, and allies. Don't miss this opportunity to be inspired and engage in a learning exchange on supporting each other's journey in a culture that may attempt to silence us. The event will feature guest speaker Jeremy Wiggins, CEO of Transcend, and will be moderated by Xris Reardon, Project Coordinator of Taking UP Space. Special thanks to RANT (Regional Arts Network Tasmania), Mt Alexander Shire Council, Mt Alexander LGBTQIA+ Steering Committee, Rainbow Angels, and many more for making this event possible.
