Summer Depth Writing Workshop | Hebden Bridge Hostel
Jun 1, 2025 (UTC+0)
Hebden Bridge
Depth Writing is a transformational process-focussed practice aimed at facilitating creativity and expanding possibility. It combines elements of journaling and creative writing and is grounded in a psycho-spiritual perspective where Jungian depth psychology meets ancient wisdom traditions. The focus is on process, rather than outcome, and on what comes up in the writing, rather than craft, skills and technique, so there will never be any pressure to read anything out (although you can if you wish). This Summer Depth Writing workshop will focus on the season’s associations with playfulness and joy. In our day-to-day life, we often find ourselves too busy to make time for play while it’s easy to get caught up in worry and anxiety at the expense of our capacity for joy - especially in these times of great uncertainty and chaos. However, far from being ‘frivolous’, play and joy both play an important role in helping us build resilience. This workshop will be a chance to reflect on where you may experience blocks to playfulness and joy as well as an opportunity to lightly activate your innate capacity for both through the writing exercises. The workshop will include short guided writing exercises of between approximately five and fifteen minutes, small group discussions and a break with tea & cake. Who is it for? Those interested in deepening creativity & self-discovery through writingWriters and creative practitioners interested in extending their practiceTherapeutic practitioners and professionals in the arts, health, education, social care and transformational growth interested in expanding their rangePay what you can: £25 -£40 A note about self-care Although depth-writing is transformational, it’s not therapy so you are encouraged to be responsible for your own experience, go at your own pace, engage with the material at a level that feels right for you, avoid over-disclosing any matter that is particularly private or painful and seek therapeutic support if any particularly big feelings do come up. By attending this workshop, you are agreeing to practice CARE - confidentiality, attention, respect & empathy - with others. About Dr Rachel I’m awriter and creative guide with a PhD in applying Jungian psychoanalysis to creative writing. She has a background in both the media and academia as a former Editor of arts & culture magazine Dazed & Confused and a lecturer with twenty years’ experience, respectively.
