Join the Omaha Press Club Foundation on Sunday, October 13 for an in-depth discussion on photography and photojournalism, plus portfolio reviews, featuring Alyssa Schukar and Travis Heying. Photojournalists from the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star will be on hand to provide porfolio reviews. Noon to 4pm Omaha Press Club, 1620 Dodge Street (22nd Floor) Free to attend, registration is required. Directions: The Omaha Press Club is located in the First National Bank Building (not the Tower), at 1620 Dodge Street in the heart of downtown Omaha. Our location is adjacent to the DoubleTree Hotel. DoubleTree Garage: In the garage on 16th and Dodge Street, northeast corner. After you park your vehicle, leave the garage, walk down to the northwest corner door of 16th and Dodge, First National Building (look for the ATM and fire hydrant). At the doors, there is a black box to buzz in, say Omaha Press Club. Follow the hallway straight to the elevators (right past the security desk). Opera in Conversation is a series of three sessions surrounding Opera Omaha mainstage productions that features creatives, scholars, and other public figures. These FREE events exist to foster cross-disciplinary exploration of art, big questions, and community connections. Join Opera Omaha on Tuesday, October 1 at the Joslyn Castle Carriage House for our first Don Giovanni Opera in Conversation. The first Opera in Conversation will feature artists of the creative team. Artists will share their inspiration, creative process, and some behind the scenes insights from the upcoming performances. Director Kristine McIntyre and conductor Judith Yan will join forces to reveal the inspirations and techniques being used in the rehearsal room while exploring what it takes to mount this iconic opera. Admission is FREE, advance registration is requested. Kristine McIntyre, Director Kristine McIntyre makes her Opera Omaha debut directing Don Giovanni. Ms. McIntyre has directed more than 100 operas with a focus on new, contemporary, and American works, including the world premieres of Hometown to the World at the Santa Fe Opera, A Thousand Acres for Des Moines Opera, and the first opera written to be performed in a planetarium, Galaxies in Her Eyes. She recently directed her first opera film, Unknown, for UrbanArias, and directed the premieres of Jane Eyre for the Center for Contemporary Opera, John Brown for Lyric Opera of Kansas City, The Place Where You Started at Art Share LA, and Mirror Game. She collaborated with several companies on the filming of her bilingual Spanish-English adaptation of The Barber of Seville, one of the many operas she has adapted and directed for education and community opera programs throughout the country. Ms. McIntyre began her opera career at the San Francisco Opera and then spent eight years on the directing staff of the Metropolitan Opera. Judith Yan, Conductor Judith Yan returns to Opera Omaha after last conducting Suor Angelica. Equally adept at symphony, opera, and ballet, Ms. Yan has held Staff Conductor positions at San Francisco Opera, Canadian Opera Company, and National Ballet of Canada. Recent performances include Suor Angelica with Opera Omaha, Madama Butterfly with New Orleans Opera, The Rape of Lucretia with San Francisco Opera (Merola), La Boheme with Vancouver Opera, Orfeo with Kentucky Opera, Swan Lake with Korean National Ballet, Don Quixote for Hong Kong Ballet, plus 8 symphonic programs for Saskatoon Symphony, with works ranging from Beethoven’s Symphony 9 to Hans Richter’s Recomposed: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons. A strong supporter of new works, Ms. Yan has conducted numerous world-premieres, including An American Dream by Jack Perla/Jessica Murphy for Seattle Opera, Dracula by Krzysztof Pastor with music by Wojciech Kilar for West Australian Ballet, Ours by John Estacio/Robert Chafe, and February by Laura Kaminsky/Lisa Moore for Opera on the Avalon, of which she has been the Principal Conductor since 2010. Who: IIDA Members and Friends What: Omaha CC | Tour & CEU This is an opportunity to learn more about and empathize with those living with physical disabilities with the goal of leading to more inclusive designs for our community. IIDA Great Plains will be making a donation to Outlook Nebraska for generously sharing their facility with us and helping aid them in their mission! $10 of your registration fee for this event will go towards that donation. HSW CEU : A Deeper Dive into Inclusive Design Assistology will lead a conversation on impairment and disability as it relates to considering the human experience in the design process. We will explore how having a better understanding of impairment can positively impact your ability to understand the needs of your client and users of the built-environment. We will also discuss how understanding the experience for a more diverse population impacts the conversation and design choices of a project. You will leave with an enhanced perspective on assessing the needs in a space and how you can take the design beyond the minimums of the ADA. Our immensely popular Dinner Detective shows are set in the present day. Unlike other murder mystery dinner shows, here you will find no cheesy costumes, no recited campy dialogue and no hokey song and dance. Our performers are dressed just like everyone else, leaving all of the guests to suspect who is a part of the show and who is not. In many instances, guests are seated with the performers and don't even realize it until they die...the performers, that is! Our Detectives proceed to interrogate everyone and find clues as the mystery unfolds. At the end of the night, prizes are awarded to the Top Sleuth who solves the crime. The Dinner Detective performs at The DoubleTree by Hilton Omaha Southwest. We offer an amazing murder mystery show paired with a fantastic four-course plated dinner. Coffee and tea are included, and there is a cash-only cash bar available as well. OUR MENU: • Appetizers (Deviled Eggs & Bruschetta)• Garden Salad with Rolls• Choice Of Entree: Chicken Picatta; Salmon Picatta; OR Gluten-Free (GF) Cheese Tortellini• Dessert (Tiramisu) Please note, short lighting blackouts are used as part of the performance. Our show does not have a theme or time period, and our performers are not in costume. You can choose whether or not to participate in the show! Our guests are encouraged but not required to perform or participate. However, since our actors are hidden in the audience, other audience members may interact with and interrogate you on their own. The show takes place all around you! Our actors are seated all around the room, possibly at your table. We also ensure each table gets to see every clue and witness every important scene, so all guests have an equal chance to solve the mystery! The Dinner Detective is a show geared toward adults. We have a strict age limit of 15 years old, due to mild adult content, loud noises, and swearing. Business casual or dressy casual wear is required for our events, unless otherwise specified in the event description! Should you need to reschedule and it is at least 7 days before your scheduled event, then a $20 per ticket transfer fee will apply.
