Comedy
Welcome to The Really Real Flop Show! Come join us at Sweet Action Theatre for a night filled with laughter and entertainment. Get ready for our brave wannabe comedians who aren't afraid to embrace their flops and fails on stage. It's all about keeping it real and having a good time with friends and fellow comedy enthusiasts. So grab your tickets, bring your sense of humor, and get ready to laugh until your sides hurt. This is a show you won't want to miss! About The Show - The Really Real Flop Show is a one-of-a-kind comedy event that combines sketch comedy and improv games, presented by an ensemble of experienced actors and first-time comedians. Directed by Tushar Dalvi, Artistic Director of Rangaai Theatre Company, the show promises a blend of spontaneous hilarity, scripted sketches, and audience interaction, making each performance unique. Themes range from light-hearted and silly to social satire, tackling topics like friendship, stereotypes, mental health, healthcare, inflation, immigration, and embracing failure. The show invites the audience to participate through a series of interactive improv games, including Unplanned Murder, Wildcard Audience, and God Says, giving you a chance to share your quirks and play along with the performers. The show guarantees to give SNL-meets-Whose-Line-Is-It-Anyway vibe — all with a brown twist! What makes this show special? It’s pay what you can, making it an affordable night of fun for everyone. Expect flops and a lot of laughs with a talented team of wannabe comedians, bringing their unique comedic style to Toronto audiences. The title The Really Real Flop Show highlights the heart of the performance — embracing failure and turning it into laughter. In comedy, a “flop” can be just as powerful as success, creating moments of genuine, unexpected joy. The show encourages audiences to redefine failure as an opportunity for fun and discovery. The idea is to “flop” together, celebrating the shared experience of not always getting it right but finding humor and humanity in the process. Director's Note This show is dedicated to the legendary Indian sketch comedian Jaspal Bhatti, who first introduced me to comedy before I even knew about Charlie Chaplin or Johnny Lever. His influence shaped my understanding of humor rooted in everyday life and human shortcomings. The Really Real Flop Show is a tribute to his legacy of finding humor in failure. My mentor, John Beale, often said, “We have more shit than desires in life, but we must find the path to our desires, and connect with it” Let this show be the step towards laughter, leaving all that “shit” behind as we laugh together! Presented in association with SenisDream Productions & Meta4 MusicIn collaboration with Small World MusicBuoyed by the incredible response to her 2023 JUNO Award-winning album Thieves of Dreams, sung in Czech, Lenka Lichtenberg releases a new album of songs inspired by her grandmother's recently discovered WWII notebooks of poems. The same notebooks that inspired the Juno-winning effort. The new English-language album, Feel With Blood, features eight reimagined tracks from Thieves of Dreams and nine new compositions from Lichtenberg, along with a song based on Holocaust-era poet Rachel Korn's A Nay Kleyd and a contribution from Theresienstadt songwriter Ilse Weber. As with Thieves, songs on Feel With Blood straddle multiple genres, from old-world folk to art and chamber music, a cappella and jazz. The engrossing work also incorporates spoken word explorations, electronic ambience and contemporary soundscapes. Guest collaborators on the album include Andrew McPherson, Shy-Anne Hovorka, Rachel Cohen, Auri Fell, Fern Lindzon, and Ben Cohen. In the past year, Lenka has performed Thieves of Dreams and her one-woman theatrical piece The Secret Poetess of Terezin internationally from Sao Paolo to Copenhagen to Prague, as well as a week-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
