Join us for an evening of bike adventures! We'll hear from Nottingham based Iz Avery-Phipps (they/them), who covered 9000km over 10 countries. Iz set off from the UK in December 2023 with their friend Zoe Roberts for a long cycling adventure to Morocco, then North to Sweden in time for their brother's wedding. After deciding to stop flying for environmental reasons, they were determined to discover alternative modes of transport. Over 12 months they cycled 9000km over 10 countries. They were hosted in 90 households, camped in the Sahara desert, the Arctic Circle and everywhere in between! Iz will share their stories of how slow travel has changed their perspective on life, and tips and tricks for the road. This event is open to all and is free to attend. This event is organised by Women in Tandem, a Community Interest Company based in Nottingham that aims to support and empower women to ride bikes. The session is funded by The National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund. Any questions, please get in touch we would love to hear from you. Predstava “Jel slobodno?” Branislave Ilić predstavlja savremenu, duhovitu i introspektivnu priču o međuljudskim odnosima, individualnim nesigurnostima i romantičnim očekivanjima. Susan Jaffe Tane, Julie Carlsen, and Gabriel Mckee will lead a guided tour of the public exhibition A First-Class Fool: Mark Twain and Humor, from her collection, which runs in the ground-floor Exhibition Hall from January 15 – April 5, 2025. About the Exhibition A First-Class Fool: Mark Twain and Humor examines the humorist Samuel Clemens, who crafted the great “Mark Twain” persona. Twain identified as a “first-class fool,” capturing his dual literary role as a simple, folksy author and speaker on the one hand, and an intelligent, cultured, and nuanced literary craftsman on the other. Twain worked carefully to construct his public persona, and his legacy continues to influence humorists to the present day. With more than 120 works drawn from the private collection of Susan Jaffe Tane, A First-Class Fool presents first and rare editions of Twain’s published works, including presentation copies, first periodical appearances, and uncommon variants; books from Twain’s library and other personal effects; autograph letters and manuscripts; photographs; and a wide variety of ephemera. Many of these items are displayed for the first time in this exhibition. An accompanying book, published by the Grolier Club, features scholarly essays edited by Kevin Mac Donnell and the exhibition’s curators, Susan Jaffe Tane, Julie Carlsen, and Gabriel Mckee. Tuesday, April 1st @ 12:30PM Underdogs Cantina, 128 King Street Peña Madridista San Francisco & Golden Road Brewing proudly invite you to join us at Underdogs Cantina to watch the CUP LEG#2 match between REAL MADRID vs REAL SOCIEDAD - --------------------------------- The San Francisco Bay Area is a diverse community comprised of people from many cultures, ethnicities, and lifestyles. We are proud of our community, and fully embrace this diversity by welcoming all Madridistas in the area to join our Peña and cheer on Real Madrid with us. As a group, we strongly believe that it is our love and passion for Real Madrid that unites us… as one giant Madridista family Peña Madridista San Francisco Bay Area identifies its roots to the Real Madrid’s 2014 summer tour, where the team participated in the International Champions Cup (ICC). The team took part in the friendly match, on a hot summer day at Cal Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, California, in front of a sold-out crowd of 63,000 attendees. Although at the time, the San Francisco Bay Area did not have an official group of Madridistas to represent them, it was that very same day that things were about to forever change. That day, the eventual founder members of the Peña were all in attendance during the game. Although they still did not know each other, it was fate and Madridismo that brought them together to a single place. Without realizing, this Real Madrid game saw the birth of #MadridistasSF. Once all the founding members had the opportunity to connect with one another on gameday, it did not take long for them to identify the need for an official Peña in their community. July, 26, 2014 is a day marked in the history pages of Peña Madridista San Francisco; this was the day that united all Madridismo in the Bay Area and would cement the roots for the Peña. With the aid of social media, the founding members along with some Madridistas began getting together to watch the games as an organized group. On November 4, 2016, just after a few months of gathering, organizing, and preparing all documentation required, all the hard work and efforts led to an unprecedented achievement in our area; the group received the official recognition from Real Madrid CF as an official Peña. In the year 2019, Peña Madridista San Francisco Bay Area was granted the non-profit status under State and Federal requirements . This recognition represents part of the commitment and dedication the Peña board, and its members, to the community in which we live in. Today, Peña Madridista San Francisco Bay Area stands as the 12 th officially recognized Real Madrid supporters’ group in the US, and a proud member of MadridismoUSA network. As an official Peña, we are committed to serving our members, while always honoring the values and expectations of Real Madrid in the San Francisco Bay. Current Peña Madridista San Francisco Board: - President: Cesar Orozco Pulido, CSMS - Vice-President: Sam Fricker & Willie Sanchez. - Secretary: Morad Brohmi - Treasurer: Sam Fricker - Videography: Willie Sanchez - Social Media: Israel Tenorio ---------------- Connect with us on Social Media --------------- Website: www.madridistasSF.com Facebook Organization Page: www.facebook.com/madridistasSF Facebook Groups: www.facebook.com/groups/madridistasSF Twitter: www.twitter.com/madridistasSF Instagram: www.instagram.com/madridistasSF Meetup: www.meetup.com/madridistasSF Information Source: Underdogs Cantina | eventbrite

Location: Stewart House Room 2/3, Royal Holloway (Access Via Senate House Library) On April 1st Sylee Gore will be celebrating the UK launch of her debut chapbook, Maximum Summer, at the Royal Holloway Small Press Takeover. The book is the latest output from Nion Editions, a wonderful press set up by Lyn Hejinian, Jane Gregory, and Claire Marie Stancek, with an interest in uncategorisable forms. Nion is interested in work that might be deemed incipient, worrisome, fugitive, or open-ended. It may include finished works, but also works-in-progress, partial works, thought experiments, guesswork, shards, & remnants. As for genre: nothing is out of the question (everything is in the question). Gore will be joined by readings from Mia You, whose chapbook Rouse the Ruse and the Rush formed part of Nion Season 3.
