Celebrate the iconic Bob Ross on his 82nd birthday with Ball State PBS and Certified Ross Instructor® Chris Taylor. This exclusive painting workshop will be held in Studio B, where Bob filmed seasons 16 through 31 of The Joy of Painting®. The studio lights will shine bright like they did for Bob!Chris Taylor is a Certified Bob Ross Instructor® in Muncie, Indiana. As a mentor to Chris, Bob would exchange letters with the budding artist and whenever he was in town he would try to meet with Chris – often inviting him to the television studio to watch the filming of THE JOY OF PAINTING®. To this day, Chris speaks fondly of the support Bob showed him. While he encouraged Chris’s artistic skill, more importantly, Bob supported Chris in finding his life’s passion. In the early 1980s, landscape painter Bob Ross began taping THE JOY OF PAINTING in the original WIPB-TV studio – a two-story yellow L.L. Ball home in Muncie, Indiana. Ross filmed this simple, soothing half-hour painting series in the small first-floor studio of the house, which still bears the “X” where he stood as he painted his “happy little trees. In 1988, WIPB and the show moved to the Ball State University campus into the Edmund F. Ball Communication Building and Studio B. Decades after that first episode aired (Jan. 11, 1983), THE JOY OF PAINTING is still airing all over the world and Bob Ross’ soft-spoken legacy lives on. Participants will paint Bob’s Autumn Woods on the same size canvas (18x24) as Bob did on television. Canvas and use of all Bob Ross supplies are included.
