Er verbrachte unzählige Stunden mit seinen Tauben im Taubenschlag und trug tagelang eine verletzte Hummel von Blüte zu Blüte. Immer war er für seine Tiere da, und auch sie waren stets für ihn da, hörten ihm zu, wenn ihn Sorgen quälten. Dieses innige Verhältnis weckte in ihm den Wunsch, sein Leben den Tieren zu widmen.
