Lemon Creek is one of the longest aboveground waterways in New York City, and its route cuts deeply into the history of Staten Island. From its upper reaches in Rossville down to its mouth in Prince’s Bay, the creek flows more than three miles, while passing through several historic communities. This walk will explore the lower section of the creek, where it flows through a protected salt marsh habitat and Bluebelt stormwater system, while flowing past remnants of the island's historic oyster industry.
Logistical info:

Sound Bath Meditation for Nervous System Reset | FloLo Holistic
Apr 28, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New York
Join us for a relaxing sound bath & guided meditation designed to help you create space for accepting and interacting with your emotions, particularly anxiety.
In our fast-paced world, many of us find our nervous systems stuck in a state of chronic stress and anxiety. The constant pressure to perform and manage an ever-growing list of responsibilities can leave us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and in need of a reset. If you've been struggling with these feelings, you're not alone.
During this 45-minute experience, we will tend to our feelings and learn how to reset our nervous systems, enhancing our overall health.
What to Expect:
Breathwork:
Discover the power of slow and controlled breathing techniques to reset your nervous system. By shifting from the sympathetic (stress) to the parasympathetic (relaxation) state, you’ll activate your body’s natural relaxation response, lowering heart rate and reducing blood pressure.
Sound Healing:
Immerse yourself in live Solfeggio frequencies—ancient sound waves known for their ability to promote deep calm and well-being. Our sound artist will play these frequencies alongside beautiful crystal sound bowls, which add a rich, resonant quality to the experience. The harmonious vibrations from the bowls will guide us beyond words, facilitating profound healing and connection on a deeper level.
Mindfulness:
Cultivate present-moment awareness to better understand and respond to your emotions rather than react impulsively. This practice allows for a conscious reset of your nervous system.
Through guided imagery and body scans, we’ll explore how stress and anxiety manifest in your body, approaching these feelings with compassion. We’ll also focus on attuning our minds to Divine love, fostering a deep reset of your mind-body-spirit connection.
Join us in creating a safe space to explore, understand, and gently work with our emotions, finding moments of peace amidst life’s challenges while cultivating a deeper connection with ourselves and the Divine.
After the meditation
, we’ll break into small groups for a guided discussion to share reflections, process the experience, and connect with others.
Note: Yoga mats, blankets and cushions will be provided.

The iconic ballet classes taught by Stanley Williams were renowned for instilling flowing movement, musicality and clear footwork in his students and the professional dancers also in attendance. Elaine Sciolino: Adventures in the Louvre | La Maison Française NYU
Apr 28, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
New York
Every year, millions of visitors to Paris visit the Louvre, attracted by its masterpieces like the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, and other magnificent works of art that are icons of human achievement. But the museum — once a forbidding fortress built to house and protect French kings — can seem more intimidating than inviting. In Adventures in the Louvre, Elaine Sciolino takes it as her mission to show how anyone can forge an intimate connection with the museum. She demystifies the Louvre, introducing us to her favorite artworks, both legendary and overlooked, and to the people who are the museum’s lifeblood: the curators selecting and arranging the works, the artisans producing frames and engravings, the builders overseeing restorations, the firefighters protecting the aging structure. An irrepressible and charming travel companion, Sciolino reveals a Louvre filled with unexpected mysteries, delights, and frustrations. She also takes us beyond the building’s imposing walls to reveal an expansive side, from the Tuileries gardens next door to the satellite museums in the northern French city of Lens and in Abu Dhabi. Through Sciolino’s eyes, we encounter a museum that is an elusive and seductive object of desire for anyone who longs for the connection and inspiration that great art provides. With her by our side, we cannot help falling in love with the Louvre.

An In-Person and Online Program
( For online registration please click
here
)
The in-person program will be followed
by a book signing and a short reception
In a talk, based on his book
,
The New York Pigeon: Behind the Feathers
,
photographer Andrew Garn will reveal the unexpected beauty of the omnipresent pigeon. Despite the pigeons’ ubiquity in New York and other cities, we never see them closely and know very little about their function in the urban ecosystem. His lecture will illuminate their intriguing history, behavior and the splendor of a bird that we frequently overlook.
Eight years of passionate inquiry produced a photographic study of the birds’ power and allure. The dramatic, hyper-real individual studio portraits capture the personalities, expressiveness, glorious feather iridescence and deeply hued eyes. High-speed strobe photography illustrates pigeons’ graceful flight and dramatic wing movements.
Mr. Garn will give a brief overview of the five-thousand-year story of the feral pigeon and address some of these questions. Why are pigeons so successful in cities and not in the countryside? Why do they have such diverse plumage? How have pigeons adapted to survive on almost any food? Why are pigeons able to fly up to 500 miles per day, but rarely do? How did Harvard psychologist B.F. Skinner teach pigeons to do complicated tasks, from tracking missile targets to recognizing individual human faces?
This talk promises to deliver a new perspective on pigeons and this intriguing and remarkable bird will be invisible no more.
Andrew Garn
is a native New Yorker who grew up surrounded by pigeons. He is a fine art and editorial photographer, and writer whose work has been widely exhibited and has appeared in the pages of

HOW THE EVENT WORKS:
Our friendly host will welcome everyone and then you'll be put on a team with other singles from your area. We will have about 3 different cities on at the same time but we make sure to put you on a team with people from your city. You will work with your team to answer fun trivia questions and compete with singles from the other 2 cities in attendance.
In each round you'll go into breakout rooms where you'll get to meet, chat with and come up with your trivia question answers with the other singles in attendance (you're never put on the spot having to come up with an answer on your own... you'll always be able to consult with the group before answering so it's very low pressure, laid back and fun).
At the end of the event you'll be given contact info of the people you'd like to stay in touch with (as platonic friends to hang out with or as potential dating partners).
THIS IS THE PERFECT EVENT TO....
Find that special someone!
Make new friends in your area!
Meet other like minded singles!
Meet some fun wingmen and/or wingwomen!
Meet new activity partners in your area!
Expand your social circle!
Once you sign up, you'll be given a link to join a group of other singles via video on Zoom. All you need is a laptop, phone or tablet to take part in the event. You'll enjoy an evening of fun trivia. We balance the questions making sure there are plenty of different topics and difficulty levels so everyone will have a good time. Our friendly host will be with you live on Zoom orchestrating the most fun trivia event you've ever been to!
STAY IN TOUCH WITH ANYONE YOU MEET!
At the end of the event all of the attendees are invited to put their email address in the chat box to the event host. The event host will then send an email to all attendees containing everyone's email address so you can contact whomever you'd like. If you're not comfortable putting your "every day" email address you can use an alternative email address or you can make another email address to use for the event. Yahoo, Outlook and Gmail allow you create several free email addresses and setting one up takes about 3 minutes. Then after the event you can feel free to email any people you'd like to see again. If people email you it's up to you if you'd like to reply to them.
EVENT DETAILS:
About 85% of people sign up by themself so don't worry if you're coming on alone! Our host will make introductions and put you on a team with other singles from your city! It's a fantastic way to meet new people and we've witnessed countless friendships formed and love connections sparked at this event.
You're never put on the spot to come up with answers... you'll be working with your team to answer the questions. You'll answer great trivia questions in all of your favorite categories like pop culture, history, entertainment (music, movies & TV), arts & literature, science and more. The winning team gets a prize!
* We have several unique rounds of trivia which keeps it really fun and exciting. Some rounds are like traditional trivia nights (simply answering trivia questions), other rounds are totally unique and change at each event. Sometimes we may show you a series of photos and ask you trivia questions about the photos, other times we play games like "Reverse Family Feud" where you'd have to guess the least popular answers to our question (it's soooo much fun!), or sometimes we'll play a "Find The Common Link" game where you'll have to answer some questions and figure out the common link between all the answers like this:
Question #1: A Tomato Based Dip
Question #2: A High Stakes Scenario Might Be Described As Make-Or-What?
Questions #3: The 2005 Film About Johnny Cash Is "Walk The _________"?
Question #4: What German-Austrian Actor's Breakout Role Came In Quentin Tarantino's Film Inglourious Basterds?
Answers: #1: Salsa #2: Break #3: Line #4: Cristoph Waltz
You and your team would have to first answer the questions and then figure out that the common link between the answers is "Dance".
* QUICK NOTE: THERE ARE LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR THIS EVENT SO SIGN UP ASAP TO MAKE SURE YOU GET A SPOT *

WHY THIS EVENT WORKS!
For many years we organized in person traditional speed dating events. While waiting for everyone to show up, the host would do some trivia questions as icebreakers to "kill time" until everyone arrived. We noticed something fascinating begin to happen. People got to know each other better and made more connections during the trivia than they did during the actual speed dating rounds! The trivia questions sparked so much conversation that we thought, "Wow, we should make an entire event like this!". And that is how our Singles Trivia Night was started!
THESE EVENTS WILL LIKELY SELL OUT BY EVENT TIME AND WE HAVE LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE AT EACH EVENT SO GRAB YOUR TICKET ASAP!

Once the clock strikes midnight - return to our platform to see your matches. It's where Cheeky meets convenience! You can also access your profile via mobile, tablet or PC. Our platform isn't an app so it requires absolutely no downloading and can be accessed directly from our website, anytime. Paper scorecards are just so 2010!
The night has arrived! Go to the venue at the published start time for the event. There is no official start time to the speed dating portion of the evening - we like to wait for all daters to arrive, to have a moment to settle in with a refreshment and mingle should they wish.
Our personable hosts will assist you with your MyCheekyDate 'Smart-Card’ Scorecard. Flirty and fun, your mobile scorecard is just the beginning. Chat up our Hosts for tips or simply to ask, which direction the bar is in! After being shown to your table, the ladies will remain seated for the duration of the event. Psychedelics and the Soul: Simon Yugler in Conversation with Carlos Ancalmo | 222 E 46th St
Apr 29, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New York
Join author, psychedelic educator, and facilitator Simon Yugler, and Carlos Ancalmo of Arcana de Amor, for an evening of myth, music, and the medicine of community. This emergent, experiential event will explore Simon’s new book,
Psychedelics and the Soul,
which delves into the mythopoetic and symbolic dimensions of psychedelic healing through the lens of Jungian psychology, ancient stories, and Indigenous traditions. Live music and mythic storytelling will unfold into an intimate evening that will only happen once.
About the book:
Psychedelics and the Soul
:
A mythological journey through 10 archetypes of psychedelic healing: ancient stories, tangible tools, and depth psychology insights. Designed for a new generation of psychedelic facilitators and seekers,
Psychedelics and the Soul
invokes the traditions of Jungian depth psychology, mythology, and Indigenous cultural wisdom to meet a critical question of our times: How can the emerging field of psychedelic medicine heal the soul amid planetary crisis and collective opportunity?
Each archetype acts as a prism, using myth, fable, and universal wisdom to reflect back to the reader the collective experiences and unconscious truths that shape our psyches—and that are made more profound and accessible through psychedelics. Yugler shares how entheogens and plant medicine open a gateway to our understanding of our culture, selves, and interconnected reality toward wide-scale social and planetary healing.
Praise for
Psychedelics & the Soul:
“This is not just another book about psychedelics. Psychedelics and the Soul effortlessly transitions between our most current understanding of the transformative properties of plant and fungal medicines and the perennial truths embedded in our earliest myths… There are only a handful of people I would willingly go to the underworld with. Simon is one of those people.” —Devendra Banhart
“This book is a generous invitation to invite poetry and myth back into the world of healing and plant medicine.” —Sophie Strand
“Using cogent myths and depth psychology, Simon Yugler acts as a soulful guide to and through the liminal terrains of plant medicines and altered states. He clarifies how psychedelics have always been part of the paths of seeking and of healing and how they speak to us individually and collectively at this critical time of life on earth.” —Michael Meade
“Holy wow, I can’t wait to recommend Psychedelics and the Soul to everyone I know. It’s the perfect book at the perfect time. Kudos to Yugler for masterfully weaving the wisdoms of depth psychology, cross-cultural mythology, and reverence for Indigenous traditions as grounded in his own counseling, teaching, and psychedelic experiences.” —David Bronner

All I Think About Is Food
serves up bold takes on comforting classics, like the smoky, spice-packed “Root-al Pastor” tacos and the perfectly crispy “Cauliflower Steaks with Peppercorn Bordelaise.” For those who love a touch of cheekiness, dishes like “That Butternut Be Bone Marrow” onion dip and “Sunday Celery Root” breaded roasts transform familiar ingredients into showstopping centerpieces. Every recipe is designed to surprise and delight, making it easy to impress your guests—whether they’re seasoned vegetarians or committed carnivores.

From snacks like “Ants on a Log Celery Salad” to indulgent desserts such as the decadent pretzel-based “Coffee and Cigarettes,” Mamrie’s book is packed with more than 100 vegetarian-forward recipes that make every meal feel like a celebration. All I Think About Is Food
is your new go-to guide for unforgettable dishes with a side of laughter.
Mamrie’s Signature Cooking Philosophy:
All I Think About Is Food
is as much about having fun in the kitchen as it is about creating incredible vegetarian dishes. Mamrie encourages readers to make recipes their own, whether by swapping ingredients, adjusting salt and pepper to personal taste, or finding vegetarian and vegan alternatives for traditional staples like Parmesan or Worcestershire sauce. As she puts it: “We’re all adults here—if you don’t like an ingredient, swap it! If you prefer cracked pepper by the fistful, go for it!” This easygoing approach ensures every reader can feel empowered to cook with confidence while embracing their own palate.
Mamrie’s fresh take on vegetarian cooking has already garnered rave reviews from some of the biggest names in food and entertainment:
“Food obsessives take note: Mamrie Hart brings a whole new vibe to vegetarian cooking. Dinner parties just got a whole lot more interesting.” -
Jamie Oliver
“Cheers to Mamrie Hart for making a recipe book I can actually follow. One drink at a time.” -
Chelsea Handler
“I love steak, dread socializing, and don’t drink alcohol. AND I STILL LOVE THIS BOOK.” -
Richard Blais
Perfect for anyone who loves food, fun, and over-the-top celebrations,
All I Think About Is Food
is more than a cookbook—it’s an invitation to reimagine mealtime as the best part of your day.
