The main idea is to hang with the Out Our Front Door community and welcome new folks that are interested in riding or volunteering with OOFD. It is a fun, chill, casual time to socialize and hangout/have a good time. WINTER SIP & CREATE Luxury boutique hotel Pendry Chicago and French brasserie Venteux have debuted their new creative workshop series featuring Chicago-based makers. Coined the Winter Weekend Sip & Create, the Michigan Avenue mainstays will transform Venteux’s beautiful botanical cafe into a pop-up art studio for six weekends from January - March 2025 in partnership with Chicago-based Nest Artisan Guild Makers and with support from the Design Museum of Chicago. Workshops will be held on Saturday evenings in Venteux’s botanically-themed cafe, inviting participants to keep winter blues at bay, get their creative wheels turning and cozy up to create something that sparks joy in the heart of the city. Friday, March 7 | Lin Bader, Gemstone Necklace Making Workshop Lin Bader is the founder of Lin Bader Design, a woman- and AAPI-owned design studio specializing in 22k gold and silver granulation, filigree, wax carving, forging and beyond, inspired by the raw design of nature. The workshop includes a brief history of gemstone beads, tips on how to identify natural beads, and different categories of man-made and treated gemstones. Guests will go through a variety of natural gemstones and their healing properties to select two strands with multiple techniques, be guided in prepping the beads and cord, and stringing and securing the necklace. Students will also learn to stamp their own initials on silver or gold-filled discs and attach them to their jewelry. The Chicago Poetry Center presents the Blue Hour generative writing workshop. The Blue Hour generative writing workshop is designed for writers and poetry fans of all levels. We discuss a poem together, then the facilitator guides the group through individual writing on an exploratory prompt that draws on themes from the poem. The facilitator and host for March 19th will be Marty McConnell. The workshop begins promptly at 6 p.m. (arrival is encouraged anytime after 5:45 p.m.) and ends at 7 p.m. Participants are invited to attend the Blue Hour open mic and reading at 7:30, following the generative workshop. You can sign up for one or both portions of the event (workshop and/or reading), but each registration must be completed separately. We are delighted to welcome internationally renowned artist Wafaa Bilal to ISAC for a special program on the occasion of his first major survey exhibition, Wafaa Bilal: Indulge Me, on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA) from February 1 to October 19, 2025. During this event, Bilal will present an overview of his performative and interactive works featured in this exhibition—including Domestic Tension and Lamassu (In a Grain of Wheat)—as well as his broader artistic exploration of cultural destruction, international politics, and Iraqi history and heritage. Bilal will then be joined by ISAC Museum curator Kiersten Neumann, whose work addresses the material culture of ancient Iraq and its endangered heritage, for a thought-provoking conversation that delves deeper into the themes explored in Bilal’s practice.
