Whiskey Club with Jameson | The Deer's Head
Jun 4, 2025 (UTC+1)
Belfast
Once upon a time, Irish monks, or some would say Saint Patrick himself, invented an elixir which was held in such reverence that it merited the name ‘usice beatha’ – nothing less than the water of life.
The truth, while a lot less fanciful, is a lot more interesting. For a start, we know that the Irish didn’t invent whiskey – neither did the Scots, but the Irish perfected it!
Join us on the first Wednesday of every month, where you'll get to taste four whiskeys and hear the story of the guest distillery’s colourful history.
Hosted in our rooftop venue Angel And Two Bibles, we are delighted to welcome special host, Joe Magowan, on behalf of Jameson.
£20 per ticket |
Includes 4 whiskeys and nibbles after event

North at 50 | The Seamus Heaney Centre
Jun 5, 2025 (UTC+0)
Belfast
Thu 5 - Sat 7 June 2025
Events will take place at the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen's
38-40 University Road, Belfast (unless otherwise stated)
Full schedule available to read/download here When North arrived in June 1975, Seamus Heaney’s fourth collection of poetry was met with almost immediate acclaim. In the United States, Robert Lowell claimed that the collection represented ‘a new kind of political poetry by the best Irish poet since W. B. Yeats’, and Helen Vendler described Heaney as ‘the best poet now writing in Ireland’. In Britain, Blake Morrison described North as achieving ‘the kind of acclaim which… we had ceased to believe poetry could receive’. The collection won several awards, including the Duff Cooper Memorial Prize, the W.H. Smith Memorial Prize, the Poetry Book Society choice, and it was a major contribution towards Heaney’s selection as Nobel Laureate for Literature two decades later. Described in later life by its author as ‘The book of mine that came most intensely out of the first shock of the Troubles’, North also took what Heaney called a ‘hammering’ closer to home, for its representation of violence, its gender politics, and even what Conor Cruise O’Brien called its ‘bleak conclusiveness’. Despite this, poems from North continue to be collected, anthologized, and studied to this day, and the collection as a whole remains integral to an understanding and appreciation of Heaney and contemporary poetry. This conference aims to reflect on the moment of North, inviting responses from poets, academics, writers, artists, and those working in any field related to or adjacent to poetry. Registration is free - optional conference packs will be available to purchase on arrival

What can you see, from over the brow? - Aiden Brady Artist Talk | Digital Arts Studios

Belfast
What can you see, from over the brow? - Aiden Brady Artist Talk Date: Fri Jun 06 2025 Time: 13:00 Location: Digital Arts Studios & online Aiden Brady will deliver an artist talk to discuss his exhibition What can you see, from over the brow?, showing at DAS in partnership with Belfast Photo Festival 2025. Aiden's new audiovisual installation will explore how meaning is assigned to landscape, set to the context of ecological breakdown. This work juxtaposes everyday ambivalence toward Irish landscapes, spiritual interpretations of natural environments and the spectacle of destructive climate events. What can you see, from over the brow?, wonders what ‘nature’ is. Does it exist, is it an idea or is it our mirror? Tickets are free and you can select two options: in-person, or online. For online tickets, the zoom link will be emailed the day before the talk.
