Hoda Kotb didn’t expect to join the Today show at age forty-four. Or to become a mother at fifty-two. Or to leave Today and embark on a new adventure at sixty! Change doesn’t always arrive when we expect it, and its effects are anything but predictable. But Hoda believes that the benefits of change can be extraordinary...if we’re willing to listen to and learn from them.In the tradition of books like Savannah Guthrie’s Mostly What God Does and Maria Shriver’s I’ve Been Thinking comes Hoda Kotb’s Jump and Find Joy —an intimate book that reveals for the first time what Hoda discovered as she started embracing change in every aspect of her life. In her quest to better understand change and how to work with (not against) it, Hoda relies on her reporting instincts to investigate HOW change works, WHO is approaching it with grace, and WHAT she can apply to her own life and share with others. Jump and Find Joy combines the wisdom of change experts, insights from the latest work on resilience, and deeply personal stories from celebrities and inspirational people in our own communities. From small shifts in daily routines to major leaps of faith, Hoda shows why change isn’t to be feared but celebrated ...and how each of us can thrive in the midst of changes we’ll inevitably face ourselves. ABOUT HODA KOTB : Hoda Kotb is the author of nine books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller I Really Needed This Today . The four-time Emmy winner has also been honored with the 2006 Peabody Award and the 2002 Edward R. Morrow Award. Information Source: Barnes & Noble | eventbrite

Sebastopol
Cultural Experiences
An evening of Tuvan Shamanism and throat singing with Chingiz Kam and Arrington de Dionyso . Chingiz Kam is a practicing hereditary Tuvan shaman from the Republic of Tuva (Siberia, Russia). He will conduct a powerful healing ritual, sharing his personal “Algysh” – an ancient shamanic chant full of spiritual power. Everyone may benefit: some will have a unique chance to touch one of the most ancient spiritual traditions on earth; some will have an unforgettable cultural experience; and some will receive spiritual and physical healing.  During this sacred ritual, each participant has the opportunity to join the journey of spirit flight undertaken by the shaman. This journey into the world of spirits and inner transformations, as taught by Tuvan shamanism, allows you to enter a special state where you can confront your fears, uncover your true desires, and crystallize intentions. Through the deep pulsing sounds of the DUNGUR (shamanic drum) and throat singing, the shaman will guide you into other realms — the celestial, the underground, and the hidden depths of your consciousness. This journey will open new horizons of inner strength and lead to healing, release from burdens, and relief for the soul. The answers to your questions and the path to transformation already lie within you — the shaman simply serves as a guide, helping you uncover the wisdom embedded in your spiritual journey. Collaborating with Chingiz during his ceremony is Arrington de Dionyso , bringing his “Voice Mask” performance with throat-singing, bass clarinet, and a variety of sonic “spirit masks” that disguise and distort simple vocal sounds into otherworldly textures. As a “punk ethnomusicologist gone rogue”, Arrington travels the world in search of primordially potent sounds. He’s worked extensively with the Jathilan trance music traditions of East Java, Indonesia, and is a devoted student of Siberian shamanism.  .  www.arrington.bandcamp.com In Chingiz’s own words – “I was born on the banks of the mighty Siberian river Yenisei and raised in the city of Kyzyl, Republic of Tuva. I have the title of Brown Bear Shaman. I come from shamanic ancestry, both on my father’s side and on my mother’s side. Ancestors come from Tes-Khemsky and Ovyursky districts, the Republic of Tuva, which is located on the border with Mongolia. Childhood and youth were mostly spent at the shepherd’s camp of my grandparents. They have kept their culture of nomadic life up to the present. Every vacation I came to them and helped them with the housework. During this time, my special connection and love for nature and animals was formed. Just like all Tuvans always, I pastured sheep and goats, sang songs in the steppes and in the mountains. I recognized life around me through the prism of Tuvan traditions. During this period, I met many spirits of the mountains, taiga, and rivers of my native places. They sometimes appeared in the form of deer, bear, wolf, snowy owl, eagle and other animals, and sometimes as strong strange short winds. All my life I clearly felt that someone was watching me closely. They were invisible defenders. When I was very ill, my ancestors came in dreams in the guise of various familiar people and fumigated with the help of artysh (juniper), after which I quickly began to recover. I have never been able to get lost in a dense forest or in an unfamiliar area. I felt many strange inexplicable things very accurately and my correct decisions were formed from this. Some people felt that I was a shaman and asked me to make charms and amulets.  Ancestral shamans also gave life lessons and the necessary knowledge for shamanic practice to one degree or another. They began to actively “work” at the time when I was about 27 years old. At that time, I had already graduated from the university and worked in my specialty. Any technology stopped working next to me, because of this there were problems at work. Reality seemed to become unreal and I experienced health problems, but the results of all tests showed that I was healthy. This went on for a couple of years, until the ancestors of the shamans “in their own ways” found me a mentor – a practicing Tuvan shaman, who is also a member of the “Adyg Eeren” society. I was initiated by three strongest shamans of the Adyg Eeren society, one of whom was the Supreme Shaman of Tuva. So I started my practice in a shamanic clinic in Kyzyl." In this class you will learn to carve a simple flat band, a domed (half round) band and a knife-edge band using calipers/dividers and files. Emphasis will be on precision layout and measuring. Later classes can emphasize more organic or flowing curve designs but this class is designed to introduce the student to very basic concepts of measuring and layout design. Stay tuned for future wax classes! Instructor : Kelly Ralston is a Bay Area jeweler with over 45 years of experience in fine jewelry fabrication, wax carving, and diamond setting. Along with his wife, Krista Meadows, he has operated Fisher’s Jewelry in Albany, CA, for over 30 years, specializing in custom jewelry and in-house design. Materials Fee: $20 covers wax and one wax file. Made payable to instructor day of class. What to Bring: All other necessary tools will be provided by Chimera. Students are encouraged to bring magnification, such as an Optivisor, for detailed work. We can provide casting for your wax ring, with the cost based on current metal pricing. Cancellation Policy: Attendees must register for classes or request cancellations/refunds 3 days in advance. (Some classes may require more time.) Eventbrite fees will be charged to the attendee. No walk-ins. Information Source: Chimera Arts | eventbrite

The smallsword is a lightweight, one-handed thrusting weapon that rose to prominence in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed primarily for civilian use, it evolved as a duelling weapon and as a symbol of status, replacing the heavier rapier as fencing styles shifted toward speed and precision over power and reach. The smallsword represents the refinement of European swordplay, embodying both martial utility and the elegance of its time. Its influence can still be seen in modern sport fencing, particularly in the foil, which evolved directly from smallsword practice. From the 27th of April 2025, we are hosting a 6-week introductory course on the use of the smallsword. This course is an ideal introduction to HEMA and Historical fencing. Focusing on the works of Domenico Angelo from the late 18th century, the system taught is both elegant and effective. The course runs in the main hall of the Southside community centre on Sundays from 3-4 pm. The cost for the course is either £50 for the entire six-week course or £15 per session Information Source: Stork's Beak School of Historical Swordplay | eventbrite

Odessos Winery is one of the new wave of Bulgarian wineries, located in the city of Varna on the Black Sea coast, with a groundbreaking and very modern concept and whose story began in 2016. After travelling around the world and gaining experience at some of the most prestigious wineries in Australia, New Zealand and Chile, the brothers Georgi and Vladislav Vankov came up with the idea of creating one of the first urban wineries in Bulgaria. Love for winemaking has been in their family for generations, and the idea of creating Odessos was a natural continuation of this passion. If they have learned anything from the endless hours of work in different wineries around the world, it is that the most valuable asset for a great wine is its terroir. This clarified the motto and philosophy of the winery - to pursue and present their own interpretation of the Northern Black Sea region, working with carefully selected vineyards of prime terroir around the seaside city. Returning from each of their wine campaigns in New World countries brought more and more success to their winemaking experiments and helped the Vankov brothers gain the necessary experience and courage to make their official start in 2020 with their first vintage. Wines for tasting: White Dimyat Byala Single Vineyard, 2024 Riesling Venchan Single Vineyard, 2023 Orange Dimyat Gentle Skin Contact, 2024 Sauvignon Blanc & Dimyat Gentle Skin Contact, 2024 Red Cabernet Franc Claret Vetrino Single Vineyard, 2024 Cabernet Franc Kavarna Single Vineyard, 2023 Information Source: Bar Zero/Zero | eventbrite

Unlock your creativity with Arduino, the versatile open-source microcontroller that's perfect for anyone - from beginners to experts. Whether you're building robots, automating your home, or experimenting with electronics, Arduino makes it easy to bring your ideas to life. With a vast community, simple programming, and endless project possibilities, Arduino is your gateway to innovation. Dive into the world of DIY electronics and start building today! This class is for folks who have little experience with electronics, programming and microcontroller platforms. Students will get hands on experience with an Arduino Uno and build a simple project. For more advanced students, we recommend the Arduino 102 class. 1. Introduction to Arduino - What is Arduino?: Overview of Arduino as an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. - History and Applications: Brief history of Arduino and common applications in DIY projects, robotics, home automation, and education. 2. Arduino Hardware - Board Components: Detailed look at the components of an Arduino board (e.g., microcontroller, digital and analog pins, power supply, USB interface). - Different Arduino Boards: Introduction to various Arduino models like Uno, Mega, Nano, and their specific features and use cases. 3. Arduino Software (IDE) - Installing the Arduino IDE: Step-by-step guide to downloading and installing the Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE) on different operating systems. - Overview of the IDE: Explanation of the IDE interface, including menus, toolbars, and the sketch editor. 4. Basic Electronics - Understanding Circuits: Basic concepts of voltage, current, resistance, and how to read circuit diagrams. - Components: Introduction to common electronic components like resistors, capacitors, LEDs, and sensors. 5. Getting Started with Arduino - Writing and Uploading Your First Sketch: A simple "Hello, World!" project, usually the Blink sketch to make an LED blink. 6. Basic Projects - Digital I/O: Controlling LEDs, buttons, and other digital components. - Analog I/O: Reading from analog sensors like potentiometers, temperature sensors, and using PWM to control things like LED brightness and motor speed. 7. Programming Concepts - Basic Syntax: Variables, data types, functions, and control structures (if statements, loops). - Libraries: Using and including libraries to extend functionality. 8. Troubleshooting and Debugging - Common Issues: How to troubleshoot common problems such as connection issues, code errors, and hardware malfunctions. - Debugging Techniques: Using the Serial Monitor and other tools to debug sketches. Materials Used in Class (provided) - Arduino Kit: Includes an Arduino board, breadboard, jumper wires, LEDs, resistors, sensors, and other basic components. - Computer: For running the Arduino IDE and uploading sketches to the Arduino board. - Additional Tools: Multimeter, soldering iron, and other prototyping tools. The class is designed to give students a solid foundation in both the hardware and software aspects of Arduino microcontrollers, equipping them with the skills to start their own projects. To get the most out of our time together, we recommend taking a look at a few items before class: A brief introduction to the Arduino A taste of C language programming Instructors Joe Szuecs (pronounced SOOCH) has worked as an electrical engineer and software developer for more years than he'd like to admit. He's built many Arduino based projects over the years. These include a drawing robot, a remote controlled percussion unit, equipment access systems and more. Jim Wheaton is runs Harmonic Systems, Inc. ( www.harmonicsystems.net ), a consulting company doing work in the music/audio/lighting world. He has extensive experience programming in C and C++ and other languages, and has done a lot of projects using the Arduino platform. Hooking up LEDs and solenoids as outputs, and using heat, light, and sound as inputs, the Arduino platform is very easy to get something going pretty quickly. More advanced programming topics, like 3rd party libraries and using interrupts can be useful for fast prototyping and real-world applications. Questions? joe@chimeraarts.org Cancellation Policy: Attendees must register for classes or request cancellations/refunds 72 hours in advance. (Some classes may require more time.) Monday through Thursday, 10am-1pm In this 4-day workshop, we will each make a small, handmade zine like punks, activists and super-fans before us. People have been making zines for decades on topics like fan-fiction, music, poetry, and tutorials. Zines can be about anything you could possibly think of. You can use found images, text, drawings, personal thoughts, quotes, and more to create a zine of any topic of your choice. They can be funny, moody or strange. It's up to you! I will bring an assortment of materials and my 1920s typewriter! At the end of the week, we will make copies of our zines, swap them with each other, and find other places to put them, like at the Sebastopol library zine collection. Bring a snack and water as needed. No need to bring any materials, but if you’d like, you can bring visual inspiration or materials to use in your zine such as books, printed images, stickers, etc. This class is an inclusive space for people of all identities and abilities between the ages of 14 and 19.
