Looking to live in the world in positive, affirmative, and sustainable ways? Looking to find new, inspiring and economically viable ways to build lives and communities?
Permaculture is about living lightly on the planet, in harmony with nature and making sure that we can sustain human activities for many generations to come.
Using a vibrant combination of theory and practice, our Introduction to Permaculture course will introduce you to
- observation techniques
- natural systems and patterns
- ethics and principles of permaculture
- permaculture design tools
What to expect
The course is informative and interactive. You will leave having designed a permaculture space, putting into practice everything you have learned. Additionally, you will have the grounding to be able to progress onto the full Permaculture Design Course.
Our setting is a developing permaculture smallholding in North Somerset. Details of our exact location will be shared on booking.

This course is facilitated by Liz from
Grow South Permaculture
Liz is a mother, sustainability professional, eco-retrofit project manager, gardener, and chartered civil engineer with a Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design and has been teaching introductory Permaculture courses for 12 years. She had a thriving urban permaculture garden with a mini orchard, pond, hugel beds and much more. She is now building a permaculture smallholding. She also has a passion for alternative forms of education for children.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Trains to Yatton, a car share will be arranged to collect participants arriving by train.
Buses to Clevedon.
Plenty of free parking available on site.

Permaculture is about living lightly on the planet, in harmony with nature and making sure that we can sustain human activities for many generations to come.
Our weekend course is an immersion into our permaculture smallholding. You will cover the foundations of permaculture in a very practical way, and see them at work on our farm. We will explore:
- foundations; natural systems and patterns, ethics and design tools
- raised beds and veg growing
- animals in a permaculture system
What to expect
The course is informative and interactive. You will leave having designed a permaculture space, putting into practice everything you have learned. Additionally, you will have the grounding to be able to progress onto the full Permaculture Design Course.
We will spend the weekend immersed in nature, you can camp at the smallholding (for a donation), we will share food and laughter, connect with the earth and learn lots!

Join us at Clevedon Library for National Crime Reading Month for a talk on poison in crime novels, from local author and crime scene advisor, Brian Price.

About the author
Brian Price is an author and crime science advisor with a background in chemistry and biology. He turned from science to crime in 2016 when he attended Crime Fest in Bristol, and started to use his knowledge to help crime writers get the scientific details right. This work became the book
Crime Writing: How to Write the Science
, a guide to the scientific aspects of crime for crime writers (and readers). He is also the author of the DC Mel Cotton thrillers, published by Hobeck Books.
About the venue
Clevedon Library has step-free access to the entrance, with an automatic door at the main entrance (opens outwards), as well as from the entrance lobby into the library.
There is sloped access with handrails to the adult non-fiction and public computer area, approximate width 150cm.
A hearing loop is available at the library help desk, as well as by request at the event.
A unisex toilet is available during staffed opening hours and events, fitted with an emergency pull cord.
All staff are Dementia Friends trained, and the library is an autism-friendly space.
The event takes place during Extended Access hours so there may be some customers using other areas of the library space.

Getting here
Clevedon Library is served by local buses at the Curzon Cinema stop (approximately 90 metres, both directions) or at The Triangle (approximately 0.2 miles away).
The nearest train station is Yatton, approximately 4 miles away.
Free parking, including three disabled parking bays, is available in the library car park to the rear of the building. Parking is limited to two hours, increasing to three hours for Blue Badge holders. Public overstay permits are available from library staff for events lasting longer than this. There is sloped access with handrails from the car park to the library entrance.
